It may sound like just another cliche, but, if you didn’t know, we met in college.

You would think with studying the same undergraduate degree and both of us being athletes, our paths would have crossed often. Unfortunately, those paths were cut short due to COVID. We only knew of each other from a computer screen while classes took place online. When Randolph finally allowed us to move back on campus, our paths began to cross more frequently. Through mutual friends and teammates (thank you Tomi and Meg), we were able to officially meet further than a quick wave in the MAC or via Google Meet.

As wild college kids during COVID, we would break the “6 feet apart” rules and a group of us would get together in a dormroom, eat dinner, and play Yahtzee! I think my first words (well, more like shouts) to Alex were "that’s a Yahtzee, say Yahtzee!" To my surprise, I didn't scare him away with how loud and excited I was!

I didn't know how crazy Yahtzee could get, but she was cute and had a good personality. We would hang out through friends as the semester went on, and got to know each other more and what our interests were. One night after a track meet, I got back to campus and just had to tell her I liked her right then (even though I may have stopped her from going to bed, which is something she loves doing). She responded with the same feeling and of course, I was excited.

We talked for a few weeks and she went home for the summer while I stayed in Lynchburg a little longer. My birthday was coming up and there wasn't much to do since I was by myself, and to my surprise, I got a phone call to come over to the campus parking lot and she was there.

She drove up from Rock Hill, SC (4 hours away!) that morning to surprise me for my birthday. It made my day, and even though it was early, I felt in that moment that she was special. And that feeling hasn't stopped!

Now we have been together for 4 years, and it was about time he put a ring on my finger! But in those 4 years we have grown together, through finishing school and starting jobs. We have seen each other through all the exciting moments and even the hard decisions; and we wouldn't want to do it with anyone else.
