Giuliana Malvarosa - Maid of Honor
Giuliana and Katharine met at Boston University where they shared a wall freshman year. Giuliana claims that they actually met at orientation while Katharine was wearing a "weird headband", but sadly Katharine doesn't remember that or her poppin' 2000s style. Giuliana taught Katharine that you shouldn't smile or talk to random people in a city and through the hundreds of hours they spent together they had found their lifelong friendship.
Katharine and Giuliana lived together sophomore and senior year as well. Giuliana continued to visit Katharine in whatever place she lived including coming all the way out to Minnesota during the wintertime. A true test of friendship.
She's the sister Katharine always dreamed of having.
Gabby Lucivero - Bridesmaid
Gabby and Katharine met on the BU Skating Team and instantly hit it off. They even describe themselves as personality twins. In fact, during college when Katharine had to take the year off from skating for two hip surgeries, Gabby made sure Katharine stayed connected to the team by being brave enough to head to the bar with Katharine while she was on crutches, a true saint.
Gabby is the reason Katharine found her way into her dream job, being a journalist. Gabby pushed Katharine to submit her first application to a job she ended up getting which started off her career. Gabby is also a journalist, she is a sports anchor at NBC Connecticut.
Alyssa Uzumcu - Bridesmaid
Alyssa and Katharine also met on the BU Skating Team when Katharine was a senior and Alyssa was a freshman. Though they only had one year together on the team, Alyssa was a constant friend to Katharine through all the craziness of her final year as a competitive skater.
Alyssa and Katharine have stayed friends as only friends created by the ups and downs of skating could. Alyssa is a consultant and lives in Boston.
Melissa Cooney - Bridesmaid
Melissa and Katharine met at WCAX in Burlington. Melissa has been Katharine's closest friend in Vermont. Katharine actually trained Melissa on her first day of work covering a 4th of July parade and from that moment on they were friends. TV is a crazy business, but thanks to Melissa being at the station it's been so much fun. They also live within walking distance of each other and take full advantage of that!
Ian Masters - Best Man
There were technically 2 and a half years of only child bliss but those memories have since been replaced with much more important information like every NBA champion since 1970. As Mark’s little brother, a fact which is only represented in age and weight at this point, he was the first and main victim of Mark’s competitiveness. This took many shapes but most memorably in the way the two of them, after much negotiation, played 1 on 1 basketball. What Ian lacked in basketball skills he more than made up for with his savviness and ability to read Mark’s wants. Ian’s greatest claim to fame is that he remains undefeated against Mark. Ian currently resides in Brooklyn where he works for Hack VC.
Pat Gunty - Officiant/Groomsman
Mark and Pat met at the age of 10 during their younger brothers’ soccer practice. This first encounter resulted in the two of them playing a full field game of one on one soccer game. As their friendship continued to grow, so did their love of competing together. Over the course of the next 8 years they would spend hundreds of hours together on and off the soccer field. It is with this history in mind that Katharine and Mark chose and were lucky enough that Pat accepted the burden of officiating their wedding. Patrick lives with his wife Mel and their dog Rizzo in their home in Glens Falls.
Nick Preller - Groomsman
Nick and Mark knew of each other in middle school but really became friends as freshmen in high school. Most notably the two were chemistry lab partners Junior year. Mark’s lasting memory of that experience was Nick getting in trouble for potentially oxidizing the triple beam balance because he wasn’t using the correct container, something that Mark had been doing for quite a while prior but happened to go unnoticed. After college they spent an unforgettable time as roommates along with Pat in Albany. Nick currently lives with his girlfriend Christina in Manhattan.
John Hartunian - Groomsman
Mark’s first memory of John is at the heart of a tumultuous beginning of a Little League season when Mark struck out in his first at bat. John was the opposing catcher and agreed with the umpire that in fact, Mark struck out. Since that first encounter the two have enjoyed countless nights hanging out by the pool or at John’s paradise of a lake house where they’ve even spent several New Years Eve surrounded by friends. John lives in Chicago where he works in sales.
Derek Dewitt - Groomsman
Derek and Mark got to know each other at first on the soccer field during tryouts for the under 12 Bethlehem Premier Team. During the next near decade, the two became friends with the English Premier League as the central topic of conversation. The many hours waiting for homeroom in high school was dedicated to debating the merits of their favorite premier league teams, Liverpool F.C. and Manchester United F.C. Of course, with Mark’s team Manchester always coming out on top (though Derek may remember differently). For the record, since they met in 2004 the trophy tally for Manchester United and Liverpool is 20 to 12. But who's counting? Derek and his soon-to-be-wife, Veronica, live in Boston where he is an anesthesiology resident at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Jerry Herrera - Groomsman
Jerry and Mark met their freshman year at Binghamton. Their friendship was a product of the squeaky floors of the East Gym where they would become two parts of “Big 3” along with Ryan Coye. In addition to their obsession with the NBA, more specifically the success of the Lebron James led Miami Heat, they were both economics majors, and shared in a willingness to test each other’s patience. Mark and Jerry shared many great debates about basketball and other things on and off the court, and it is what truly solidified their friendship. Jerry shares his time between San Francisco and Long Island whilst working for PoshMark as a software developer
Alex Freedman - Groomsman
Mark’s enduring memory of Alex from the nascent stages of their friendship is a triple clutch basketball layup he was somehow able to pull off. The reason for this, beyond it being an incredible feat of human athleticism, was the effort and dedication Alex had to put in to achieve it. The commitment to doing the best you can in spite of the circumstances is a theme of their friendship to this day. It has pushed both of them to step out of their comfort zones and embrace the relative unknown. The most common results of this have been silly pranks and jokes, that at times resulted in them making complete fools of themselves, but in the few settings outside of those it has produced real growth as people professionally and generally. Alex lives in Manhattan and works for McKinsey & Company.
Will Poetzsch - Groosman
Will and Mark met playing soccer at 14 years old. A love of soccer and the video game FIFA really drew them together. After college, Will became a frequent visitor to the apartment Mark shared with two other groomsmen Pat and Nick. The following year Mark and Will (and his perfect husky Zucc) became roommates in a three bedroom apartment in Albany. During this year, Mark and Will would spend just about every waking hour they weren’t working either playing FIFA, with an unhealthy commitment and intensity, or discussing the happenings of the day. Mark and Katharine credit Will with serving as the “neutral” arbiter (mostly siding with Katharine) of early relationship debates.
