The easiest airport to fly into is Milan Linate Airport (LIN). MXP is also a great option, just a bit further to commute into the city.
To travel from Milan to Como by train, you have a few options:
Direct Trains: You can take a direct train from Milan's main train station, Milano Centrale, to Como's main station, Varenna-Eskimo-Perledo (via Trenord or ItaliaRail). These trains typically run frequently throughout the day and offer a relatively fast journey.
Regional Trains: Alternatively, you can take regional trains from Milan to Como. These trains may make more stops along the way, potentially taking a bit longer, but they can be a more economical option.
To find specific train schedules, ticket prices, and book your journey, you can use various online platforms such as Trenitalia or Omio. These websites allow you to search for trains based on your preferred departure time and provide you with all the necessary information for your trip. Additionally, you can purchase tickets either online or directly at the train station.
We recommend staying in Bellagio as we'll arrange for a boat pick-up to transport you to the venue in Limonta on Wednesday, June 19th (Wedding Day) at 3:30 pm and will have a shuttle service departing at 1:00 am to return you to Bellagio. I've included recommendations from our wedding planner in the accommodations tab above. If you have any specific questions about these recommendations, let me know!
Bellagio's central location on Lake Como makes it easy to visit other towns and attractions around the lake, such as Varenna, Menaggio, and Como. Ferry services connect Bellagio to these destinations, making it easy to explore if you want to!
To travel from Varenna to Bellagio by ferry, follow these steps:
Arrive at Varenna Ferry Terminal: The ferry terminal is conveniently located near the Varenna-Esino-Perledo train station and is easily accessible by foot from the town center.
Check Ferry Schedule: Check the ferry schedule posted at the terminal or inquire about departure times from the ticket office. Ferries typically run regularly throughout the day, but it's advisable to confirm the schedule to avoid any unexpected delays.
Purchase Tickets: Purchase your ferry tickets from the ticket office at the terminal. Make sure to specify that you're traveling to Bellagio when purchasing your tickets.
Board the Ferry: Once you have your tickets, proceed to the designated boarding area for the ferry to Bellagio. Be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot on the ferry, especially since it is PEAK tourist season.
Enjoy the Scenic Ride: The journey from Varenna to Bellagio has stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains & you can get a cocktail :)
Arrive in Bellagio: The ride is approx. 15-20 minutes, depending on the ferry schedule and lake conditions.
Short answer from our Italian wedding planner: no.
Securing a taxi in Bellagio, Como, can be difficult. The town's small size and restricted vehicle access in certain areas limit the number of taxis available and their ability to navigate efficiently. Bellagio's popularity as a tourist destination, particularly during the summer months, leads to increased demand for taxis, resulting in longer wait times.
Some taxis may require advance booking, adding to the difficulty of hailing one on the spot. Consequently, you should anticipate potential delays and plan transportation arrangements accordingly if you are hoping to travel around the neighboring areas (and not use the ferry system).
Yes. Taxis primarily prioritize airport transfers, and it's typically challenging to find one for travel between Bellagio and Limonta, for instance. Our wedding planner highly recommends pre-booking as they may all be occupied last-minute.

It depends on your travel preferences and itinerary. A car will offer flexibility and convenience for exploring nearby areas at your own pace, but it may not be necessary within Bellagio itself due to its compact size and pedestrian-friendly layout. Additionally, parking can be limited and expensive in Bellagio, especially during peak tourist seasons.
If you plan to primarily stay within Bellagio and explore the surrounding towns via ferry or public transportation, renting a car may not be essential. However, if you intend to venture further into the Lake Como region and visit more remote areas, a car rental could be beneficial.
There's a daytime boat service between Limonta and Bellagio until approximately 8 pm, with tickets purchasable in Bellagio or aboard the boat.
