Kathleen and Garrick met in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Garrick had completed his medical school program in Iowa, and Kathleen had done the same in Pennsylvania. They were both able to stay in their home states to complete medical school, but something changed when it came to advancing their careers...

They had both hoped to find a psychiatry residency program that would fulfill their career goals, and they had both matched up with the same program in Michigan. Kathleen and Garrick started as colleagues that just did what they needed to do to get through the long work days. Then, they started to speak casually at work and realized they could become good friends with some common interests.

Garrick was living in a beautiful lake home far away from the hospital they worked at. Kathleen was living in a small apartment a few miles away from the hospital. So, the two started to spend time with each other more. For Kathleen, it was the beautiful summers at the lake spending time kayaking and enjoying the sunset boating rides Garrick would take her on. For Garrick, especially in the winters, Kathleen's apartment was an easy lunch break spot or a place to come say hello during the long call shifts. Garrick also liked to come spend time with the cat, even though both were always 'dog people.'

Over the few years of becoming good friends, it blossomed into a beautiful romance. From good friends, to then boyfriend and girlfriend, they decided they were now both best friends and soulmates. The two ended up in Michigan for training, and while it was not where they grew up, they both could not imagine their journey going any other way. Their friendship built a beautiful foundation for them, and they were able to endure both positive and negative experiences. And, they have always come through stronger than ever.
