The year was 2005.

Kathleen saw Matt for the first time skating with some friends and she said to herself “whose that cutie with the blonde hair and blue eyes?”, she knew she had to meet him. When school started that September she made it her goal to meet him and the Junior high lunch room was the best place to make that happen. They started sitting together at lunch and quickly became best friends. That was the lunch table that started it all. After that Matt, Kathleen and the rest of their friend group were inseparable all throughout high school.

But, then High school graduation came and Matt went away to College. Matt and Kathleen did their own thing for a while. Remaining friends the whole time and even though they were on different paths they still made time for each other. Kathleen even went up to Alfred State to visit Matt and when he was home for holidays they spent their time together. More time passed and Matt graduated college and came home. It was around this time Hurricane Sandy hit and rocked all our lives. Kathleen had no heat, hot water or Electric at her house but she quickly realized, the McQuillans had it all. So She went there with Tonic and all her things and never left.

In 2014, The McQuillan’s left Freeport and made their way to Amityville, where Matt and Kathleen shared the basement apartment for a few years. Until March of 2018 when together they achieved their goal of buying their first home together. They moved to Oakdale and have been happily renovating and making this house their home ever since.

This story may sound simple, but a lot of life happened between all these milestone moments. Moments that changed who they are as people. Moments that showed them their love for each other could withstand the tests of time, of distance, of heartbreak and some of the hardest days of their lives. These moments also showed them how their love made them both better people. And throughout these years they have experienced so much, laughter, adventure and fun together.

They found their person, the one and only. And on September 23, 2023 after 10 years of being together they officially become Mr. & Mrs McQuillan.

Not many people get to say they married the love of their life. But, these two do.

Just goes to show all the beautiful things that can happen when two kids fall in love.
