Our Story

Our journey began on Hinge, after we each received recommendations from friends and family to give it a try. Kathleen’s sister, Victoria, and her fiancé Will had met on Hinge and were already two years into their relationship, and they couldn’t help but encourage her to give it a go. For Aaron, it was a rideshare client who suggested the app and said, "You never know, you could meet someone special."

When we matched on a Sunday morning, it sparked a week of endless texts, and by the following Saturday, February 10th, we were finally able to meet in person. We shared a mushroom pizza, and that’s when Kathleen learned the word hongo—the Spanish word for mushroom—which became Aaron’s sweet pet name for her. He says her hairstyle always reminds him of a mushroom!

The cultural differences between us became clear right away, but it only deepened our connection. Aaron, who is Venezuelan, speaks Spanish as his first language. Kathleen, eager to communicate more deeply with him, took it upon herself to learn Spanish. We’ve both loved learning each other's traditions—whether it’s exploring the rich history of Venezuelan cuisine and music or celebrating American holidays in new, meaningful ways.

Our generational, cultural, and language differences have only made our bond stronger. As we’ve navigated these differences, we’ve built a relationship grounded in understanding, patience, and love, and we couldn’t be more grateful for how our unique backgrounds complement each other.

After just our second date, we both knew this was something special. By mid-April, Aaron proposed with a ruby ring—his birthstone—and we began planning our future together.

Over the past year, we’ve traveled to Houston, Tampa, Orlando, and Nashville. We’ve celebrated birthdays, cheered for our friends as they became citizens, watched countless soccer matches, and enjoyed several concerts. Aaron’s newfound interest in wine has led to fun wine-tasting adventures, which he happily suggests whenever we get the chance.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to share that we’ll be moving to Sarasota this fall. Kathleen was offered a new job opportunity, and after our second trip there, Aaron knew it was the perfect place for us to grow together, both personally and professionally.

Nuestra Historia

Nuestra historia comenzó en Hinge, luego de recibir recomendaciones de amigos y familiares para probar la aplicación. La hermana de Kathleen, Victoria, y su prometido Will se conocieron en Hinge y ya llevaban dos años juntos, por lo que no pudieron evitar animarla a intentarlo. Para Aaron, fue un cliente de transporte compartido quien le sugirió la app y le dijo: “Nunca sabes, podrías conocer a alguien especial.”

Cuando hicimos "match" un domingo por la mañana, eso desató una semana llena de mensajes interminables. Finalmente, el siguiente sábado, 10 de febrero, nos conocimos en persona. Compartimos una pizza de champiñones, y fue entonces cuando Kathleen aprendió la palabra hongo—el término en español para champiñón—que rápidamente se convirtió en el tierno apodo que Aaron le dio. ¡Él siempre dice que su peinado le recuerda a un hongo!

Las diferencias culturales entre nosotros se hicieron evidentes de inmediato, pero solo profundizaron nuestra conexión. Aaron, quien es venezolano, habla español como su primer idioma. Kathleen, con muchas ganas de comunicarse de manera más profunda con él, decidió aprender español. Ambos hemos disfrutado mucho aprender las tradiciones del otro—ya sea explorando la rica historia de la gastronomía y la música venezolana o celebrando las festividades estadounidenses de una manera nueva y significativa.

Las diferencias generacionales, culturales y de idioma solo han fortalecido nuestro vínculo. A medida que hemos navegado esas diferencias, hemos construido una relación basada en la comprensión, la paciencia y el amor. Estamos profundamente agradecidos de cómo nuestros orígenes únicos se complementan entre sí.

Después de nuestra segunda cita, ambos sabíamos que esto era algo especial. A mediados de abril, Aaron propuso con un anillo de rubí—su piedra natal—y comenzamos a planear nuestro futuro juntos.

Durante el último año, hemos viajado a Houston, Tampa, Orlando y Nashville. Hemos celebrado cumpleaños, aplaudido a nuestros amigos mientras se convertían en ciudadanos, visto innumerables partidos de fútbol y disfrutado de varios conciertos. El nuevo interés de Aaron por el vino nos ha llevado a divertidas aventuras de cata, que él sugiere felizmente cada vez que tenemos la oportunidad.

Mirando hacia el futuro, estamos emocionados de compartir que nos mudaremos a Sarasota este otoño. A Kathleen le ofrecieron una nueva oportunidad laboral, y después de nuestro segundo viaje allí, Aaron supo que era el lugar perfecto para que ambos creciéramos juntos, tanto personal como profesionalmente.

Estamos agradecidos por cómo se ha desarrollado nuestra historia de amor y no podemos esperar para comenzar el próximo capítulo juntos.
