Joey + Ryn

Kathryn and Joey’s story began at Frankie's Fun Park in Raleigh, where they met playing mini golf with friends—and immediately realized they had good game, and even better banter. They bonded over their love for games; puzzles, board games, video games, hockey; and actually enjoying long conversations about plants (yes, plants). They started hanging out at Red Line, a bar near NC State’s campus, playing chess and trivia.

One summer, Kathryn scored passes to a music festival. An extra wristband showed up by mistake, so Joey jumped at the chance to come along. Though he was new to the EDM scene, Joey’s love for dancing and live music had him feeling at home in no time.

Joey's obsession with knowing every rule of a sport—especially hockey and football—sometimes turns into a game in itself. Watching their teams, the Hurricanes and Rangers, is a thrill, but their true talent is finding joy in any game, whether they are rooting for a specific winner or watching a small local team they’ve never heard of play.

They’ve explored 15 states, visiting family and hunting for the best food (hot pot, pho, Mexican cuisine etc) along the way. Road trips are basically their favorite thing- from playing Interstate Bingo to the passenger reading aloud from a book- the car rides never get boring.

Their house is fondly referred to as “The Tiny Greenhouse” as it is home to over 100 houseplants. Joey and Ryn enjoy spending time in their garden, growing fruit, vegetables, and cut flowers for bouquets.

At home, they’re known for Tuesday night card games, Joey’s weekend guitar solos, and binge-watching movies—mostly comedy, action, horror, or sci-fi, because why not have options? Their cats—Majo “Jojo” Mayhem, Dr. Gray, and BMO—and their Corgi, Jakobi Meyers (named after NC State Legend), keep life lively and full of entertainment.

Joey and Kathryn love following Bob Ross paint-along videos together. It’s become one of their favorite ways to unwind and get creative. They even display their own Bob Ross-inspired paintings around the house, turning their home into a little gallery of happy little trees and mountains. Their most special moment related to Bob Ross was Joey’s proposal — he asked Kathryn to marry him during one of their paint-along nights with friends and family in Charlotte. It was a fun, memorable evening filled with laughter, love, and plenty of “happy trees” forever tied to the beginning of their forever.

Long (fart) walks, bike rides, falling asleep to Harry Potter, and endless laughter makes their every day amazing.

Located in Morganton, 15 miles (25 minutes) from the Brown Mountain Beach Resort, Fairfield Inn &amp; Suites Morganton Historic Downtown provides accommodations with free bikes, free private parking, and a shared lounge. Please let us know if you need assistance getting from the hotel to our venue! The trolley will not be in service. With free WiFi, this hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and a business center. A buffet breakfast is available at the hotel. Fairfield Inn &amp; Suites Morganton Historic Downtown has a sun terrace. Guests at the accommodation will be able to enjoy activities in and around Morganton, like hiking, skiing and fishing. Asheville Regional Airport is 63 miles away. Note: at this time there is not a block reservation for the wedding.
