Our Wedding

Kathy and Justin met in 2016 at Boston University. Kathy had just moved from Portland, Maine, into the 7th floor of West Campus with her arms full of boxes and heart full of nervousness about being in a new city. She had no idea that her future husband was just down the hall. Her roommate at the time wanted to introduce her to everyone on the floor—but their first encounter wasn’t exactly love at first sight. Coming into the city from a small town outside of Boston, Justin was excited and ready to make new friends. He instantly befriended his two roommates, who had made plans to grab a bite with others on the 7th floor. They headed down the hall to meet up in another room, which turned out to be Kathy's room. Exhausted from setting up her dorm, Kathy had fallen asleep on her bed, jacket still on, when Justin walked in. His first words were, “Is she… okay?” He thought she was pretty weird, and she fell back asleep before he even said his name. Not the most romantic start—but it makes a great story now. Over time, they realized they shared every class together. Their friendship grew through elevator run-ins, the daily, “Dining hall at 7?” text and becoming delirious as they studied into the night that became their unspoken ritual. That summer, their program sent them abroad to London. Justin—the meticulous planner—thrived on itineraries and structure. Kathy—the spontaneous explorer—loved getting lost and seeing where the day would lead. Together, they were equal parts stress and excitement, with memories they’d still laugh about years later. Since they had met, Justin had been quietly falling for Kathy. He planned to keep those feelings to himself, afraid of risking their friendship—but with their closest friend leaving Boston University and his feelings growing stronger, he realized he had to take the chance. He decided he’d tell her before the London trip ended, giving himself the option to “escape” if it didn’t go well. On the very last week of their London trip, while they were resting before another day of exploring the city, Justin looked at Kathy and said, “I love you.” Kathy was caught completely off guard—but happily surprised. On that same day, June 17th, 2016, they shared their first kiss. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Our Story

The Proposal

It was a hot summer morning on May 3rd, 2025. Justin put on a corduroy jacket with the engagement ring box hidden in his pocket, which he had taken out of his golf bag minutes before Kathy asked why he was wearing a jacket. "It's to complete the fit," Justin said and Kathy just shrugged it off without suspicion. The plan was to go to brunch in the Boston Seaport area to "celebrate" her upcoming graduation. The restaurant was right around the corner from the spot of their first date 9 years ago: Fan Pier Park. While leaving the restaurant, Justin suggested they walk off the food after discreetly shooting a text to the professional photographer, whom was already there clearing people out for the perfect shot. As they approached the spot, Justin stopped Kathy mid-stride and began his rehearsed speech. Kathy noticed the photographer and tried to scurry out of the way saying, "we're in this lady's photo, we have to move." Justin stopped her, as they were the photo. Getting down on one knee with immaculate form, Justin pulled out the ring and asked Kathy to marry him. With tears in her eyes, she said yes.

Kathy met Nhi over 15 years ago and have been best friends ever since. They bonded over having similar family responsibilities and cultural backgrounds. (Fun fact: Kathy’s Vietnamese name is also Bao Nhi, so they often joke that they’re Nhi squared!) One favorite memory is their high school graduation where they decided morning of that it was a good idea to dye Nhi's hair. They ended up speeding down the street, hairdye all over, dying of laughter through it all. These spontaneous decisions is what Kathy cherishes most about Nhi. Today, Nhi is a travel nurse who works in the night and sleeps in the day (so everyone applaud her for being awake on 8/8!)

Chae was Kathy’s first friend at Boston University. They trauma bonded as they cried their eyeliner off in chemistry labs and suffered into the night writing lab reports. She’s the reason Justin and Kathy are together (that “close friend leaving” in their story? That was Chae!). Despite her threatening personality,  Chae is actually very kindhearted—like the time she sat with Kathy in silence watching Big Daddy (her favorite movie) just to make her feel better after a tough day. Today, Chae has returned to Boston and works as a pharmacist who won't provide free prescriptions to anybody..

Chae Cho

Lauren and Kathy met at Justin's frat party and became close friends during COVID. They share minute-to-minute updates across Chicago and Boston, keeping life spicy with the tea.  Lauren is also very wholesome - sending handwritten cards from afar and is always up for adventure, like the night she flew to Boston and they spent half the evening sprinting around the city dodging rats and ...alleyway surprises... Today, Lauren works as a consultant, somehow juggling it all while still spending most of her time with Kathy digitally.

Aimee met Kathy through her first roommate at Boston University, and they bonded over purple sweet potatoes, matcha ice cream, and donuts. She’s the most considerate, kind hearted person Kathy has ever met and honestly has the most superior taste buds (every place she recommends is a 10/10!!) Aimee is also secretly an actress —like the time she pretended to be Kathy’s “masculine Korean roommate” junior year (sorry mom). Today, Aimee is a talented brand designer whose eye for aesthetics is truly unmatched.

The middle Luu brother, and the obvious choice for Best Man. Nate has been by Justin’s side for almost 29 years. Growing up, their parents’ favorite phrase was, “Make sure you take your younger brother with you,” which meant Nate was at every one of Justin’s playdates, parties, and hangouts. Eventually, it just became normal—if you saw Justin, you saw Nate, and people constantly assumed they were twins. (Justin would like everyone to know he’s the older brother; Nate would like everyone to know he’s the taller one.) Their bond grew out of shared jokes, shared friends, and shared punishments. They’ve spent nearly three decades roasting each other, competing in literally everything (Justin is still a better 3pt shooter), and laughing at inside jokes that no one else understands but that somehow get funnier every year. Today, Nate is a typical finance bro who mainly talks about stocks, crypto, and money moves, while wearing his vest.

Nathan Luu

Alan and Justin began their close friendship when they were soccer teammates in elementary school. They share a nerdy love for anime and video games, and to this day, still make recommendations to each other. At the peak of Covid, Alan had moved back to Boston and reconnected with Justin. Whenever they get a chance, they meet up for food in Boston the Weeb Hut Jr. squad is in town. From Amazon to Meta, Alan currently works as a software engineer to bring you more brain rot as you endlessly doom scroll.

Ivan and Justin were both new students at Woodland Elementary School when they first met in 2nd grade. They were even on the same bus, so naturally they became close friends. With many shared interests, they've remained close friends even today, occasionally grabbing dinner together when the Weeb Hut Jr. squad is back in town. Today, Ivan is studying hard in med school and on his way to becoming a doctor. Maybe he'll save your life one day.

Ivan Davis

Thomson and Justin met during their years in undergrad at Boston University. They were frat bros in Omicron Pi Alpha (OPA), throwing the best parties in Allston. From memorable nights (and non-memorable) in the frat house basement to weekly trips to Whisky Saigon nightclub (RIP), they've got each others' backs. Truly a brother from another mother. Based in LA nowadays, Thompson works as an aerospace engineer working on [CLASSIFIED], aka cool stuff.

Thompson Cragwell

The youngest Luu brother, "Johnny," has always been the most creative of the three. From singing in multiple a cappella groups to performing solo in front of audiences, Johnny's never been shy to be on stage (he's even had a role as a cow in a play). Johnny was the best choice to serve the most important role: as the officiant. He will do Justin and Kathy the highest honor of pronouncing them Husband and Wife on their big day. Johnny is currently studying at the University of Vermont (UVM), where he has found his niche of musically talented and lifelong friends.

Where will the ceremony and reception be held?Both the ceremony and reception will be held in the Grand Ballroom at Lakeview Pavilion in Foxborough, MA. Parking is available on-site. What is the dress code?We kindly request black tie optional dress attire. For men, this would mean a suit and for women, this could be a floor-length gown or shin length cocktail dress. While black tie is not required, we encourage dressing nicely! You do not need to wear black, but we do suggest avoiding white and red. Where should I fly into, if I'm coming from out of state? You can fly into Boston Logan International Airport! Is there a hotel block?A block of rooms has been reserved at the Renaissance Boston Seaport District hotel at a discounted rate for your convenience. There is a limited number of rooms available, so will be first come, first served. Please see the "Travel" section for more details.
