Nathan and Kati met at Bevill State Community College where Nathan was on the baseball team and Kati was on the softball team. On 8.16.2008, the night the teams moved into their dorms, Nathan decided to knock on random dorm doors and meet people. The first door he knocked on happened to be Kati's apartment. The two and their roommates ate spaghetti together that night.

After meeting, the two quickly became best friends and hung out almost every day. They played one on one basketball the night before every baseball game for good luck, they would give each other relationship advice, drive around in his purple PT Cruiser talking for hours, eat Taco Bell together, and have impromptu dance parties. Every one else at Bevill insisted they liked each other, but they were truly just best friends until one day that all changed.

After Bevill State decided to drop its baseball program at Sumiton after their freshman year, Nathan was transferring an hour away to the Fayette campus to join their baseball team for his sophomore year. That summer before Nathan moved to Fayette, he and Kati hung out even more knowing they wouldn't see each other much during the next school year. Kati and her friends, Michelle and Erin, attended almost all of his summer ball tournaments that summer. Nathan and Kati were both beginning to like each other more and more every day. On July 8,2009 they had their first kiss and started dating.

On December 28,2016, after almost 7 and a half years of dating, Nathan proposed to Kati.
