Yes☺️ we are getting married in the Traditional Latin Mass, so women do need to veil. Don’t worry, if you don’t have a veil, you can wear a (preferably lace) scarf over your head.
But why do women have to veil?
I'm glad you asked! According to the Traditional Rite, women should veil for many reasons, including the following:
1. The Traditional Latin Mass embraces the tradition that echoes through the centuries, and recreates the same reverence of the Early Church in the modern day. According to tradition, only the MOST SACRED things were veiled to accentuate their importance and sanctity. In the Catholic Church, women are seen as having a special kind of sanctity, as they have the unique and awesome ability to participate in creation by carrying life in the womb. The veil honors this gift that is uniquely given to women.
2. The veil helps you focus on the Mass, and, since you ONLY wear it at Mass, it emphasizes the solemnity and specialness of the occasion. This is especially true if it smells like incense, which it usually does, sooner or later.
3. It's also a sign of humility, since women have pretty hair. It's kind of similar to how men have to take off their hats in church (no offense to men's hair).
5. Contact Katie if you want to talk more about this!
I'd like to buy a veil to wear at the wedding. Where should I look?
There are two websites that Katie has looked at, and that seem really good, though she has not yet bought veils from them. If you're interested, the websites are: https://www.veilsbylily.com and https://www.mariaveils.com.
Traditionally, black veils should be worn by married women, and white veils should be worn by unmarried women, though there are many other colors that can be worn by anyone.
