Our Story

The Beginning

Katie and Jon met during winter break in Jon's first year of law school and Katie's senior year of college. Two friends decided to play matchmaker one night, dragging a group tubing at Yagoo where Katie and Jon met for the first time. Katie thought Jon was cute and a few days later friended him on Facebook.

Fast forward a few months and Katie started hearing back from law schools - one of them being Suffolk University, where Jon was finishing his first year. Jon sent Katie a quick congratulations message and offered to answer any questions she had.

That summer, when Katie found out her class schedule, Katie messaged Jon asking all sorts of questions - none of which she cared about the answer. Katie thought Jon was cute and wanted to get to know him better. Little did she know, Jon saw right through what she was doing.

When the fall semester started, Jon and Katie started seeing each other regularly, and by Christmas they were officially a couple.

Over the past 6 1/2 years, together, Katie and Jon survived law school, a year of "short-distance" dating, 2 summers of the Bar exam, broken bones/countless trips to the ER (mostly Katie's fault), buying a house, extensive renovations of said house, adopting 2 cats (when they were only supposed to adopt 1), cat ER trips (definitely not Katie's fault), constant bet-making/harassment if Jon was going to propose on the annual St. John vacation, and everything in between.

There is no doubt that it has been a a wild ride so far. Katie and Jon cannot wait to see what the future has in store for them - although hopefully less ER visits of both the human and feline variety.

The Proposal

On February 27, 2018, Jon Proposed to Katie at Ditleff Beach in St. John.

Jon asked Katie if she wanted to go paddleboarding first thing in the morning before the wind and waves picked up. Katie thought it was a great idea, although her definition of first thing in the morning was clearly different than Jon's.

Jon's alarm went off at [vacation] crack of dawn - 6:10am. Katie thought it must have been a mistake and rolled over attempting to go back to sleep until at least 7am. Jon had other plans, and was up making lots of noise. After much grumbling, Katie got up and got ready to go paddle boarding - thinking this adventure was to find turtles.

After a quick march down to the beach, they were off. Katie thought she found a turtle pretty early on in the paddle and tried to call Jon back. Jon, however, turned around and kept motoring on - he was a man on a mission. About half way through the paddle, Katie noticed that Jon had something square in his pocket and thought for a fleeing second "is he going to propose?" She then quickly thought "nope, that is definitely just the GoPro for when we find turtles."

Again, Katie paddled around on a mission to find turtles, while Jon made a B-line for the beach, on a mission to get Katie to the beach. She was clueless. When Jon finally got Katie over to the beach he mentioned that he wanted to explore a path that he thought was on the beach. Katie knew the path was in the exact opposite direction, but Jon nevertheless persisted to get her to a spot at the end of the beach where he wanted her to go.

When Jon finally got Katie to the end of the beach, he dropped to one knee, pulling out a ring box (from the same pocket that Katie thought had a GoPro) and asked Katie to marry him! Katie, of course, said "Yes!"
