Our Wedding

MEET KATIE!

Katie was born Kathryn Renee Cogar in Fort Mill, SC (just outside of Charlotte). She was born on October 9, 1996 with her twin sister, Olivia (Isphording). Katie grew up loving music and animals, playing soccer, drag racing with Dad, arts and crafts with Mom, and having tea parties with Olivia and their stuffed animals. Katie would always come up with quirky ways of doing things- solving math problems, finding new ways to use paperclips across the house, or figuring out what could REALLY be done with duct tape. Katie was always an entrepreneur at heart, starting a babysitting business with Olivia at age 11, dogsitting at age 14, making and selling duct tape roses and wallets at 15, and selling her class notes starting at age 16. She started dogsitting on a bigger scale in college, and now she is happy to have Nick as her business partner in that effort. Katie really enjoys puzzles- especially Sudoku, Cryptograms, and Jigsaw puzzles. She likes any task that will exercise her brain. She also loves building Ikea and Amazon furniture/items, experimenting in the kitchen, aquascaping her fish tanks, playing board games, learning how to live a healthier life, thrifting with friends, rewatching the same tv shows, drinking bubble tea, travelling, doing any sort of crafty project, and collecting Pokemon cards. Katie attended UNC Charlotte starting in 2017 where she met Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity and all the great people within it. She met most of her Bridal Party through the Fraternity and much of the guest list is made up of her Fraternity brothers. She now volunteers with the organization in her free time, mentoring engineering students and taking pride in her beloved brothers. Katie graduated in December 2020 with a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering (her proudest accomplishment), and she has been working with the City of Charlotte DOT ever since. There, she met one of her best friends and mentor, Erin Pratt. Shoutout to Kayla and Shaianne for being her other work buddies and helping keep her sane at the office! Katie met Nick at a delicate time of her life - when she was looking for full-time work. She has been so grateful for Nick's love and support these past few years as she navigates adulthood. The things he loves most about Nick are his style, wit, kindness, calmness, and caring demeanor. Katie has many favorite memories with Nick, but towards the top of the list are: their trip to EPCOT, their road trips to Georgia, many nights at the Vue's Sky Lounge with his friends, their aquarium and zoo visits, their beach trips and flights to WV, their househunting adventures, getting bubble tea, beating him at Clue every time, and their weekend getaways to Boone. Katie has been dreaming of a wedding since she was a little girl- especially one where she could wear her cowgirl boots. She's very excited to celebrate with all of you, but mostly to tie the knot and continue building a life with her best friend, right swipe, and love of her life, Nicholas Grant Carter.

Meet the Bride

Meet Nick!

Nick was born Nicholas Grant Carter and is an only child who grew up in a small Georgia town with a population of less than 1500 called Walnut Grove. He grew up playing football and played on the inaugural football team at his high school. He has always been the life of the party. Nick loves to spend his weekends dancing at his friends' weddings, spending time with family, and spending time with Katie. When spending a night in, some of Nick's favorite movies are: the Matrix, Gladiator, and Braveheart. He is also thoroughly enjoys Japanese media produced in the late 90's and early 2000's. Nick also enjoys video games . He has been ranked in the top 1% of players in the world in "Super Smash Brothers" and has been known to be a formidable opponent in board games like Catan. Two things that Nick has always been passionate about are real estate and technology. Nick started his career in real estate at the early age of 20. Today, he is licensed in multiple states and has been recognized for his sales performance. Nick also taught himself to code in 2022 and quickly become a proficient full-stack programmer in less than a year. His current programming projects include algorithmic cryptocurrency trading and artificially intelligent sales software. Nick loves Katie deeply and fell in love as soon as he saw her. Some of Nick's favorite memories of Katie are: Nick's birthday party shortly after they met, their first date, and their time together at the botanical gardens in Atlanta. What Nick loves most about Katie is her passion and how she always wears her heart on her sleeve. Nick is looking forward to the wedding and can't wait to have all his friends and family together for some fun!

Meet the Groom

How We Met

We met on Tinder in August 2021. Katie was home sick with Covid and killing time with swipes. She swiped on a guy name Nick and it was a match! They chatted a little and added each other on Snapchat. They didn't talk much after that day. Then one day, on November 4, 2021, Nick messaged Katie and asked if she wanted to hang out that night. She said yes, and met him at the VUE's top-floor bar (Nick's apartment building) that night after work. We had some drinks, conversations, live music, and fun with some of Nick's friends. Katie will never forget their first date because it was more of a double-date with Nick's friends Jamie and Pablo.

The Second Date

A couple weeks went by after the first date and Nick invited Katie over to the VUE again for a Friendsgiving event they were having. Again, it was with many of his friends and it was a great time chatting and eating some good food. After this date, no more than a few days would go by without Katie and Nick seeing one another.

The Proposal

We had planned to go to Biltmore on October 5, 2024 for Katie's birthday present, but Hurricane Helene changed those plans the weekend before. That night, while sitting at home and eating pizza while watching Disney movies, Katie was really upset that she couldn't see the Biltmore in the fall like she always wanted to, so Nick says "Well I have something to cheer you up" and he got down on one knee and proposed in our living room. At first, it was a shock and Katie didn't think it was a real proposal, but after some happy tears and big hugs, she said yes. Little did Katie know that Nick's plan all along was to propose on that day at the Biltmore.

Our Hobbies

We enjoy Pokemon cards- trading, buying, selling, and collecting. We spend a lot of time together with our Pokemon cards- Nick researching the best deals and Katie organizing the cards and packing the orders. Our favorite dates are dinner and card shops! We also board dogs together, and owning our home with a fenced yard and more space has allowed us to grow the business some. Katie is very happy to have the extra help doing something she loves.

Our House

We are very proud to own a home together. After living in our Plaza Midwood apartment for 2 years, we were ready to get out of that lifestyle and enjoy suburbia for a while.

Our Goals

Katie aspires to obtain her Professional Engineers' Licensure and see where that takes her. She also hopes to become a certified dog trainer to be able to board-and-train from their home. She wants to specialize in basic and obedience training with a focus on reactive dogs and socialization with cats (Fender is good at helping with that). Nick wants to continue programming and building AI Integrations. Together, we aspire to own multiple properties and live on sustainable passive incomes. We want to eventually build our own homestead in the country somewhere and enjoy our lives together, growing in love and in our faith. Don't worry moms- grandkids are a plan too!

Theresa and Katie have been friends since they were 13. They grew up playing soccer on opposing teams, but in 8th grade, they really hit it off. Despite eventually going to different high schools and colleges, they remained friends all this time. When she's not being a socialite, Theresa enjoys cooking, watching tv, and spending time with her cat, Buttons. Katie couldn't imagine her wedding day without her lifelong bestie by her side to help her with it all. Theresa is the life of the party and will always "bring the lit." Katie couldn't do this without her. Thanks for helping plan the bridal shower!

Theresa Erickson

Brittany and Katie have been friends for several years. They met through Brittany’s husband, Trithong, who is a Fraternity brother of Katie’s. Brittany enjoys her work, baking, hosting scary movie nights, and spending time at Dachshund meet-ups with one of her 4 weenies. Brittany is fun, prepared, organized, and will help keep Katie straight at the wedding and throughout all the planning processes. Katie needed Brittany's skills and calm nature to help bring her balance throughout the planning and the wedding day (and plan an awesome bachelorette trip). Thank you Brittany for everything!

Brittany Pierce-Tran

Sarah (“Red”) is Katie’s big brother in the coed Fraternity they are a part of. They met back in 2018 and have been friends ever since. Sarah enjoys thrifting, building legos, DIY projects, and spending time with her family Tank (dog), Millenium Falcon "Millie" (cat), Name TBD (son), and Coby (husband). and Sarah is fun, friendly, lively, caring, reliable, and selfless- great qualities to have in a bridesmaid. Sarah is Katie's rock, and she needs her on the wedding day and to help with the fun games for the bridal shower!

Sarah Mente

Tina is one of Katie’s little brothers in the Fraternity, and another of Katie’s friends. Tina is probably the nicest person Katie has ever met, and her calm nature is essential to balance out all the emotions of the wedding day. Tina enjoys spending time with friends and family, her boyfriend, Felix, and their dog, Kuma. Tina brings so much humor and fun (and a little sarcasm) to the group, and Katie is so happy to have her as a part of all the wedding festivities. Thank you (and partner Felix) for traveling from Alabama to celebrate the day!

Tina Tran

Olivia is Katie's twin sister, so there's really more to say than will fit into this character limit. Similar to Katie, Olivia enjoys puzzles, crafts, antique stores, and DIY. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Brandon, and their dog, Chaco. Olivia will bring calamity and organization to the wedding party, providing support where she can and assisting with all the DIY decor planning!

Haley is Nick’s first cousin, but he feels she's more like a sister. He really cares for Haley and thinks a lot of her, and couldn’t imagine getting married without her in the bridal party! Haley is also an Emmy award winning producer. Her charisma, kindness, and joy will bring greatness to the wedding party. Thank you Haley (and husband Tyler) for coming from Georgia to celebrate!

Sam was a close friend of Katie’s for a few years. She was killed in a car accident in July 2024, but Katie always wanted her as a bridesmaid in her wedding because they were so similar and so close in many ways. Sam introduced Katie to the aquarium hobby, reinforced and restarted her love of puzzles, crafts, and thrifting, and gave Katie the confidence to get where she is today. It was Sam who told Katie to go on that first date with Nick back in 2021. She will be honored by having a place in the bridal party held by a photo. Katie is devastated that Sam won't be there to help with all the wedding fun, but she knows Sam is there in spirit.

The Guys

Devin has been Nick's best friends since they were children. Nick was Devin's Best Man, and Devin is thrilled to return the favor for Nick!

Devin was Nick's first friend when he moved to a new town called Walnut Grove. Devin and Nick always have a good time when they get together and have always been there for each other when it counts. 

After over 20 years of friendship, Devin and Nick are still very close.

Cody and Nick have been good friends for over 20 years. The met in elementary school and played football together. Cody is an EMT and has saved many lives throughout his career. Cody has a great sense of humor. When he and Nick are together, a good time is a guarantee!

Nick and Mike have been friends for about 15 years. Lot's of people call Mike (including Nick) call Mike by hist last name, "Hageman". Hageman is people person and always knows how to put a smile on your face. He is very genuine and an all around great guy.

Chase and Nick have been friends for over 15 years. They were roommates in college. Nick and Chase's friendship has consisted of legendary adventures, good times, brotherhood. Chase and Nick can always count on each other.

Nick and DJ have been friends for over 10 years. They were roommates for almost two years. Nick and DJ have a lot in common and often have deep conversations that last hours and go late into the night.

Trithong is Katie’s Fraternity brother, but now a close friend of both the bride and groom. Ever since Katie met him at the 2018 (coed) Fraternity beach trip, they have been great friends, and she needed him in her bridal party. Trithong enjoys playing volleyball, gardening, hanging out with friends, and spending time with his wife Brittany and their four dogs. He’s funny, organized, responsible, reliable, easygoing, and fun, and the couple is so excited to have him involved in their wedding. Let’s get down to business!
