Jack and Katie’s journey began at First Baptist Charlotte over an intense volleyball game. Katie noticed Jack from across the court, and, confident in her exceptional flirting skills, marched over to him to comment on how red his arms had gotten from hitting the ball. Realizing that it would take more than her clever pickup line to capture his interest, Katie then twisted her ankle, affording her the opportunity to play damsel in distress.

Katie’s strategy was a success. Jack was intrigued by her weak ligaments and bold personality, and coincidentally decided to join her small group, where he got to know her joyful demeanor, strong spirit, and heart for the Lord. His interest grew as he observed her skillfully lead the small group week after week.

Meanwhile, Katie continued her forward pursuit of Jack. After much convincing and a failed dumpling date invite, she finally wore him down. Their first date consisted of non-stop laughter, a perfect flirt-to-roast ratio, and deep connection – though it took an hour of Katie’s interview-style questions to get there. The two spent 6 hours jumping from hotspot to hotspot, beginning at North Italia and ending at Two Buck Saloon.

One would think that Jack would be sold after such a lengthy first date, but he instead decided that he was not ready to pursue a woman of Katie’s stature and told her that he would like to be “really good friends”. Katie had no interest in such a proposal, and gave Jack an ultimatum, telling him they could either date or go their separate ways.

This was the final nudge that Jack needed, and after several months of proving that he was finally ready to pursue Katie, she agreed to let him take her on a second date. The rest was history. Jack’s infectious smile and gentle heart won over Katie, and Katie’s contagious enthusiasm and love for others captured Jack’s heart.

Over the course of the next 18 months, Jack and Katie filled their days with adventure and competition. The two nurtured a shared love of travel as they spent their weekends exploring small towns in North Carolina and jetting off to Florida. Their shared competitive nature led to many intense games of pickleball, ping pong, and a newfound passion for escape rooms. Their time together was always marked by a blend of light-hearted conversation that kept them laughing and deep, heartfelt talks about their faith that challenged and grew them in ways they never expected.

Now, as Jack and Katie prepare to begin their life as one, they are committed to building a life centered on love, generosity and faith. They will strive to love and serve others, give generously of their time and resources, and glorify God in all that they do. Along the way, they are just as determined to keep their sense of fun and adventure alive.
