Answer: One potentially extraordinary reaction.
*record scratches* "Yep, that's us. You're probably wondering how we ended up here. To sum it up in a few words would be an injustice so let's go back to the beginning." (Katie: little cheesy, but I'll let it pass)
*Flashback starts*
Spring Semester 2016 Michigan State University - I'm just coming off of winter break and headed into one of the most challenging semesters of my life, and with every new semester, there comes a new lab. This one just happened to be Organic Chemistry Lab 1. We are randomly assigned partners and lab benches, and that's where it all began, right? 2 star-crossed lovers meet fatefully as lab partners, right? Ha ha - WRONG. My lab partner Will and I handled one side of the aisle, and across the aisle, a guy named Michael and a cute girl with brown curly hair owned the other side. The lab went smoothly, the occasional acid spill and banter from one side of the aisle from a slightly cocky kid who thought he knew what he was doing and a confident girl who actually did. (Katie: I had no idea what I was doing and often had to ask Cole for help because I ignored the instructions)
The semester comes to a close, and by this point, the two had become friends after bonding over the hatred of organic chemistry and a fondness for the Arctic Monkeys AM album. I had finally worked up the courage to ask her out, it took all semester, but I did it. The boy asks out the girl, and this is where our story begins! - Just kidding - she said no... twice... This is just the prologue of the story! (Katie: I still thought he was cute, though)
Fast forward a few years, you know, a few years older, a few years wiser, and I was minding my own business when I received a message through the most honored and noble method of communication, Snapchat. It was an adorable woodblock set with the elemental symbols for Calcium, Flourine, Iron, Iodine, and Neon spelling out CaFFeINe, the only thing keeping me at least semi-focused throughout college. (Katie: Thanks, mom, for the sign, I caught a husband with it)
I couldn't hold in my excitement and thought it was pretty clever. It was kinda funny that THAT led to our first date (Sansu, of course!) and started what would be a lifetime of love and support, but it was cute.
That little message has led to a lot of amazing adventures. That little spark has taken us to Tennessee, Arizona, St. Thomas, moved us across the state, created a home together with two adorable cats and a group of friends and family that add so much more to our lives.
There comes a point where you can look at someone or get a text or a phone call from someone that brings a smile to your face. They become part of you, and you hold them close to your heart. If we are lucky enough, we get to keep them. There comes a point where you can look at someone and just know that you want to spend the rest of your life with that person. April 29, 2021, she said yes!
(Katie: way too cheesy)
All of this brings us to May 8, 2022, where one story ends, and another begins. We are very excited to share this day with you, and we hope we can bring about the joy in you all that we have experienced with all of you.
We hope to see you there!
Love, Katie, and Cole
