Katie and Kevin first met through their mutual friend in the most romantic place in the world, the Left Field Bleachers at Wrigley Field. (Right Field sucks) When Kevin arrived to meet his friend Zach at the Cubs game, he also met his two friends, Katie and Maddie, and Katie was holding a baseball. She excitedly exclaimed that Steve Cishek, a bullpen pitcher, had thrown her the ball, and Kevin thought "wow, this girl knows the Cubs bullpen better than I do." Separately, the day after the game, Katie texted Zach that he should bring Kevin around more often because he was really cool.
About a year later, after Kevin came to a party at Katie's house, he texted her to ask her on their first date at Fado, an Irish pub in River North. After that date, the rest was history.
Kevin and Katie returned to Fado a few times throughout their relationship, but their most memorable evening there was Thursday, August 17th, 2023. After sitting at the bar for a couple of drinks, Kevin insisted they needed to leave immediately, despite Katie having no idea why they were in a rush. When they got back to Katie's apartment, Kevin got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, presenting her with a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne that he had hidden in her apartment after she left for work that morning. And then, because many of their relationship milestones are tied to sports, the newly engaged couple made their way over to their 9pm kickball game, where they got to celebrate with many of their best friends. Despite Katie's poor baserunning due to the distraction of the ring on her finger, they still won the game 8-2.
The day after the proposal, Katie and Kevin returned to Wrigley Field, and each caught a baseball, sitting in those same Left Field Bleachers. In the fifth inning, the video board flashed "Congrats Kevin and Katie!" The only thing that could have made it better was a Cubs win.
