Which Airport should I fly into?
Shannon is the closest major international airport, approx. 1 hour by car or <2 hours by bus. There is very minimal traffic between Shannon and Galway. There are many flights directly from NY to Shannon available (which are generally the same prices as flying into Dublin), but fewer/more expensive options for traveling elsewhere in Europe before/after the wedding from Shannon.
Dublin airport is 2-2.5 hours from Galway by car, all via major highways and is an easy drive (not much traffic once you leave Dublin area). Since Dublin is the major international airport, there are tons of options for flying inexpensively elsewhere in Europe before/after the wedding!
Both airports have US pre-clearance customs for the trip back, to streamline the journey once you land back in the US.
Are there any other hotels in the area?
Glenlo Abbey (our venue) is about 10 minutes outside of Galway city center, so all hotels in the Galway area would work! We stayed at multiple hotels in Galway and Dublin during our stay in 2024, with a wide range of prices. All of them were very clean and comfortable.
We have stayed at and would recommend The Ardilaun Hotel and Eyre Square Hotel in Galway. We also stayed at and would recommend the Clayton Dublin Airport hotel, Hotel Motel One, and Clontarf Castle in Dublin.
Most hotel rooms are smaller than what we are used to in the US. Clayton hotels seem to have the largest rooms. Glenlo Abbey (our venue) had by far the nicest and most spacious rooms and is our top recommendation!
What's the Dress Code?
Formal. Men should wear suits and ties, women should wear long or mid-length dresses. See photo.
