Our Story

How "we" became US!

The saying “opposites attract” could not be more true for the love story of the soon-to-be 6 foot 4 Mr. and the soon-to-be 5 foot 3 Mrs.&nbsp; Both Katie and Garrett call the city of&nbsp;White Bear Lake home sweet home. Despite growing up in the same city, the two officially never met or showed interest in each other until many years after high school.

Katie and Garrett’s love story starts fall of 2012 as “Bulldogs” during Katie’s freshman year and Garrett’s junior year of college at The University of Minnesota, Duluth. Together the two would bump into each other out and about with mutual friends (many who are in their wedding party now) at college parties. That spring, Katie was very much a homebody and transferred to finish out her Elementary Education as a “Gopher” at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.&nbsp; Little did they know that their journey of seeing each other was not over.&nbsp;



Flash forward three years later when their paths and friend groups crossed yet again with many themed parties, late nights shutting down bars and dance floors, and outdoor sporting events. Garrett was almost two years out of college and learning how to balance being an adult with his first full-time job while living with four of his best friends. Katie was completing her senior year and looking forward to starting her final year of college to get her Master’s and become a kindergarten teacher.



Although the winter of 2016&nbsp; was cold, icy, and much of a blur, things started heating up that spring between the two of them. Katie knew he was the one weeks before they officially went on their first date. It was a beautiful spring Saturday morning when Garrett and his roommates were hosting friends over for the Kentucky Derby at their Long Ave house in St. Paul.&nbsp;Just as everyone was heading out to Britt’s Pub in Minneapolis, to watch the horse races Katie's twin sister Kelsey, decided last minute&nbsp;she wanted to join. Katie decided to stay back and hang out on the front porch of the guy's house for Kelsey's arrival.&nbsp;&nbsp;As the dapper crew was filing into the Ubers with their big hats ready to leave, Garrett turned around and told everyone else to go, he was going to stay behind to make sure Katie was okay and safe. That was the start of his adorning protection and admiration for Katie.&nbsp; As Katie sat there on the porch with clammy hands, butterflies, and for once a loss of words the time flew by as they got to know each other and the rest is history! As soon as Kelsey arrived they went down to Britt’s Pub to join their friends and that was the last time they ever sat at opposite ends of the table. Soon their conversations turned into text messages, Snapchat “streaks,” and their last, first date. Their first date was nothing shy of laughs, spills, and the start of amazing adventures together. Together the two have since enjoyed many dates including breweries, patios, sporting events, traveling, and everything in between with their family and friends.



As their relationship was taking off, so did Garrett’s career. He started shadowing for a position in the summer of 2016 and accepted the role as a Pacemaker Specialist for Abbott that winter. In 2017, Garrett relocated to St. Cloud. The saying “Distance makes the heart grow fonder” was the motto that kept them going. Katie became a frequent flyer, visiting every weekend he did not come back to the cities. She packed her overnight bag and left following the school days on Friday and returned home for dinner time, Sunday evenings. Their weekends together always flew by. Although the town did not offer them much, they learned the value of quality time together, just how much Katie loves fried rice or buffalo wings, and realizing that central Minnesota is not for them.



&nbsp;Katie did a happy dance in 2019 when Garrett was able to finally move back to the cities and call Maple Grove home. The two of them moved into the townhome they are currently still calling home. Together they have learned the art of living with a significant other - the dirty dishes in the sink, clothes on the floor, and Katie’s vision for decorating and incorporating dusty pink in every room.&nbsp;&nbsp;



Later that summer, Garrett whisked Katie away for a Fourth of July getaway to Bayfield, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota. They stayed in a cozy&nbsp; “treehouse” Airbnb just outside of Bayfield. The two spent their evenings on the treehouse porch with a&nbsp; glass of wine and whisky overlooking the tall trees, starry night sky, and howls of creatures calling that place home. Although Katie reading one too many murder mystery novels, originally found the treehouse and woods to be a tad spooky and not her “ideal stay”, found comfort and peace talking about their future travels, careers, and the idea of mini-me’s running around one day.&nbsp; Their holiday getaway started out with gloomy and dreary overcast weather but soon turned to fireworks,&nbsp; sunshine, and rainbows as Garrett popped the question Fourth of July morning at Madeline Island. The magical moment was shared among just the two of them overlooking the cliffs and Lake Superior in their matching iconic Old Navy Fourth of July shirts. They continued their celebration the next few days visiting Duluth - a town that they never knew how much it would impact their relationship and adventures.



	As soon as Katie had cellphone reception she spent the entire car ride home (and for the next 2 years) planning and dreaming about their wedding day. Although the two were not able to say “I Do” on August 7th, 2020 as originally planned, they are even more excited to become husband and wife this August, 12th, 2021. If this year of the pandemic and COVID have taught them anything, it is that life sometimes does not always go as planned, but that sometimes it throws you something even better. They are beyond excited to celebrate their love story and see what the next chapter has in store for them as Mr. and Mrs. Nevala!

What time are wedding festivities happening?









Our wedding ceremony will start at 3pm with a cocktail hour immediately following. Dinner will be served at 5:15pm with dessert, speeches and dancing after.&nbsp; The last call will be at 9:30&nbsp;as all guests have to be off the venue property no later than 10 pm.







 



















Will there be a hotel shuttle provided?









Yes!&nbsp;We have made arrangements for hotel transportation from Treasure Island Resort and Casino for guests before/after our wedding.&nbsp; Treasure Island Casino is about 10 minutes from our venue. Shuttles will be running every 30 minutes - starting at: 1:45pm, 2:15pm, and 2:45pm.&nbsp; Shuttles will resume to the hotel following dessert and speeches - about 7:30pm. The last shuttle will be at 10pm for the bridal party.&nbsp;







 







Can I leave my car overnight at Legacy Hill Farm?







No, unfortunately, we are not allowed to leave cars overnight at Legacy Hill Farm as they have weddings and events right away the next day. We encourage any and all guest&nbsp;that plan to enjoy a drink or two to make arrangements for a safe ride home or to book a room at Treasure Island Resort and Casino and take advantage of the shuttle service that we are providing.&nbsp;







 







Is the ceremony and reception at the same place?







Yes!&nbsp;Guests will enjoy all our wedding festivities&nbsp;on-site at Legacy Hill Farm.&nbsp;







 







How far is Welch from the Twin Cities?







Depending on your starting point in the Twin Cities, Welch is about 45 minutes south.&nbsp;
