This love story began after a summer of working together at Sun Splash family water park. The two were merely acquaintances at work, each with their own group of friends. However, that didn't stop Katie from noticing Andrews beautiful bright blue eyes. Once school started back up in the fall, Katie was a junior and Andrew was a sophomore. Katie messaged Andrew on Instagram and asked if he was at homecoming. She was feeling brave and ready to ask Andrew to dance with her. He didn’t respond for a few days until finally he responded “no.” That was all.

After Andrews witty sarcastic response, they still somehow continued the conversation from there. They began with a first date to Dennys (Katies choice), having breakfast for dinner (their favorite)! Then ice skating, meeting each others friends, and families. Before they knew it, it was October 3, 2015, Andrew and Katie were laying on the trampoline in Andrews backyard looking up at the stars when Andrew asked Katie to be his girlfriend.

Andrew and Katie were ecstatic with the opportunity to go to Maui, Hawaii in January 2022 with her mom and step dad. Once they knew they were going to Hawaii, Andrew immediately got to planning. At this point, Katie and Andrew have been together 6 years. Theres nothing they dont know about each other. Yet, Katie truly had no idea throughout the entire thing. She was in complete denial that this could possibly be his moment. She believed from previous conversations he might not ask her for at least another year or two. Andrew wanted to wait to get married until he was settled into his career.
When planning this trip, Andrew went above and beyond buying Katie a whole new wardrobe for the vacation. Katie didnt ask questions, she just relished in the joy of it all.
She did ask questions while on the island, asking for Andrews phone to look at some pictures. He was a little secretive which caught Katie by surprise. He told her he had already starting planning for her birthday (in April) and he didnt want her to see anything that could give away his surprise. Katie was a little shocked that he would be planning her birthday so early but just laughed and shrugged it off. While enjoying their vacation, Andrew surprised Katie with a sunset photoshoot on Wailea-Makena beach. He said “When will we ever be in Hawaii again?! Let’s get pictures taken!”


Katie still has no idea...
They arrive at the beach and meet the photographer. Who point blank asked Katie if she had any extra jewelry she wanted to take off. She was wearing her grandmothers emerald ring on her right hand and the promise ring Andrew gave her on her left hand. Katie said nahh and never gave it another thought.
Halfway through the shoot, the photographer had Katie pose towards the water. He told her to hold this pose for what felt like a century. Katie felt as though they must have forgotten about her or maybe he was just getting different angles. All while Andrew fumbled behind her trying to get the ring out of his pocket. Finally, Katie was told she could turn back and there Andrew was, on one knee with a diamond ring in his hand. So many emotions ran through them as those next words were spoken and Andrew asked Will you marry me?
