Gunnison has several great shops, like Gene Taylor's, Treads and Threads, Tango, and more! As for restaurants, our favorites are 5Bs BBQ, Back Country Cafe, Ol' Miner Steakhouse, and Piezans Pizzeria.

Hartman Rocks

Hartman Rocks Recreation Area includes over 8,000 acres of public land. Hartman’s is located just a few miles southwest of Gunnison. It’s a great area for mountain biking, hiking, motorcycling, rock climbing, horseback riding, and trail running.

Blue Mesa Reservoir

Blue Mesa Reservoir is Colorado's largest lake. You can fish, swim, kayak, and paddle board at Blue Mesa! Blue Mesa is about 20 miles west of Gunnison. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards at https://www.wheeliesandwaves.com/paddle-sport-rentals.

Shopping/Dining in Crested Butte

Crested Butte is a great mountain town with lots of activities. It is about 30 miles north of Gunnison. There are great touristy stores and boutiques. Our favorite restaurants are Ryce and Teocalli Tamale. Crested Butte is the wildflower capital of Colorado, August is not prime wildflower season, but you will still be able to find some.

Taylor Reservoir

Taylor Reservoir is 35 miles northeast of Gunnison. You can fish, kayak and paddle board at Taylor Reservoir. You can also swim, but the water is very cold all year round. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards at https://www.wheeliesandwaves.com/paddle-sport-rentals.
