We have done this excursion before and it was so fun! We loved being able to kayak out to the caves. The tour guides were awesome and provided lots of information about the area. We got to see lots of the sea lions that live in the cove!
Gear up and take to the waters on a kayaking adventure off the coast of San Diego. A professional guide leads a tour to the Seven Sea Caves with the opportunity to see microhabitats of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve, abundant marine life, and sea lions on the nearby rocks.
Head to the shop to meet your friendly guide, gather the necessary equipment, and get an informational overview in preparation for your excursion. Continue to the beach where the reefs have provided calmer waters to safely get on your kayak. Take notice of the breathtaking surroundings as you leave shore, keeping an eye out for sunbathing sea lions.
Make your way to the millions of years old sandstone cliffs to explore the exclusive sea caves, 6 of which are only accessible by kayak. Enter the fissures in the rocks that were once used to smuggle immigrants and contraband through. Peek over your kayak to discover the plentiful marine life in the ecological reserve, such as garibaldi fish, dolphins, and sea turtles.
Wrap up your tour as you soak up the sun and paddle your way back to shore.
The cove is awesome! We love to walk around the area and watch all of the sea lions!
The small and sandy La Jolla Cove, conveniently located downtown, is a picturesque cove sandwiched between two sandstone cliffs. It's a great place for families to splash in the water and explore the pools at low tide, as is the nearby Children's Pool Beach. Scripps Park offers a dramatic view from the walkway along the bluffs above the ocean, where you can watch the sea lions sunbathe and play.
With having a 55 gallon salt water aquarium at home, it goes without saying that we love to visit aquariums as well! Although this is a small aquarium compared to others, it is a great place to spend the morning or afternoon learning about the ocean!
See more than 5,000 fish in 60+ habitats plus a museum featuring cutting edge research from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. Take in spectacular panoramic ocean views, get hands on with interactive activities, see a tank feeding, and dive deeper into the world under, in, and above the oceans.
These trails are gorgeous! They are not hard whatsoever, and would be great for the whole family!
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, located on the cliffs above Torrey Pines State Beach, is a 1,750 acre reserve dedicated to preserving its namesake, the Torrey Pine tree and other indigenous wildlife in its native environment. A coastal wilderness of pine forests and sandstone canyons, the park has a series of well-kept trails that wind along the cliffs offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. With both easy, family-friendly paths and more advanced trails, the park provides a great hiking experience for all levels.
