1. How did you meet each other?

John

I was living with Paul, who was one of my best friends and also engaged to Hadley, who was Katie's best friend. Hadley invited her over one time, and every free moment after, I would ask Hadley, "Hey, why don't you invite Katie over??" Since then, I had silently decided that I would certainly make my move whenever I could. One day, she was hanging out with us and happened to be single then, so I got her number and invited her on a date.

Katie

We first met each other at Walk-Ons. My best friend, Hadley, and her fiancé, now husband, Paul, were roommates with John at the time. Thankfully, this allowed us to grow as friends and get to know one another, before we started dating. Shoutout Hadley and Paul 😉

2. What was your first impression?

John

"Wow, this girl is mysterious! LOL. I knew there was something about her that I was so interested in since I first met her. Katie had her walls up, and I knew I wanted to see if I could charm her enough to fool her to let me in. Honestly, she was a manager of Blu Spero at the time, and she seemed very mature for her age and I admired that about her. Obviously, her looks were captivating back then as they are today."

Katie

"My first impression (besides the fact that he’s the most handsome man ever) was that I thought he was quiet, but funny. He didn’t say much, and it seemed like everything he said was well thought out and always had a touch of humor."

3. When did you know you liked the other?

John

"This is a very easy question, as I knew the first time I met her."

Katie

"One night, I, Hadley, and Paul went to Happy’s for a drink. John SAID he would come, but it was getting late, and he never showed up. I was resistant at first, so of course, I was trying to play it cool, but as it got later, I could not stop wondering where he was. I finally asked Paul to see what was going on, and I think at that point, both Paul and I realized I was interested. I think John was trying to turn the tables to play hard to get, and it worked. And yes, he eventually came to meet us."

4. How was y’all’s first date?

John

"If I remember correctly, we went to Geisha because I knew she loved sushi. It went well; my great sense of humor kept her laughing. I think we took a tequila shot at one point. It went as well as I could've asked."

Katie

"Our first date was perfect. It felt easy, and there was hardly any pressure. We went to a sushi restaurant, Geisha. John made a mess with his sushi…. I didn’t know that was possible. And we stayed there for hours, talking and getting to know each other."

5. What do y’all have in common?

John

"We love music, having a great time, and hanging out with our closest friends. She loves coming to hunt with me. (Katie here 👋- big LOL)

We share a love for dogs, scary movies, and beating each other in Rummy. I think I can speak for her by saying it doesn't always matter what we do as long as we are together."

Katie

"If you ask some, they would say we’re both “chill”. I am NOT chill, just as an FYI. John grounds me, so I may come across as chill, but in reality, I’m the opposite - but we’ll get to that. I would say the main thing that we have in common is our goals in life and in a relationship. We expect the same thing from one another: respect, love, and communication. This is what makes us work and grow stronger every day."

6. What makes y’all different?

John

"Katie rides a little high on the anxiety meter sometimes. I enjoy taking things as they come and have a little more laid back view on life. She has very distinct views and procedures on cleaning, as do I, and there has been times where these views are known to clash. "

Katie

"I would say the main thing is that I live in absolute chaos, while John’s day-to-day is a well-oiled engine. I'm not sure if he’s learning anything from me, but I’m definitely gaining his tips and tricks!"

7. Who wears the pants in the relationship?

John

"Guess who"

Katie

"I hate to be cheesy here, but I would actually say both of us. There are days when he takes the reins, and there are other days when I’m just too stubborn to consider a compromise (even though he’s probably right🙄)"

8. Favorite quality about each other?

John

"She can have fun and help me have fun anywhere. If not that, then her sense of humor."

Katie

"Back to the chill thing - I love how calm and collected he is. I have days where I let my thoughts get the best of me, and he is always there to calm me and reassure me that everything will be okay. He’s wise beyond his years, and I love and appreciate that so much about him."

9. What are you most excited to get out of marriage?

John

"A lifelong intimate friendship to share experiences with. She makes my day better every day, and we love building each other up."

Katie

"I’m excited for everything. Growing together, facing obstacles together, all of it. I can’t wait to be old with children who have their own children and look back and know I chose the best life partner."

10. What makes the other “the one”?

John

"Her friendship. Her love. Her stubbornness. Her pet peeves. Her little giggles and side-splitting laughter. Her baby talk to the dogs. Her generosity. I can keep going.."

Katie

"It’s the little things we do daily to make each other feel loved and appreciated. It’s easy to lose sight of that, and John is so great at remembering to do those little things to remind me that we’re stronger than ever. I would like to thank Mr. Rich & Mrs. Susie for this one. Thank you for raising such an amazing guy."
