In the summer of 2023, Cordell and Katie met on Facebook dating. It's not exactly what either of them imagined when looking for that special someone. Cordell was just about to give up on dating, as he had been sorting through many rocks while trying to find his diamond. Then Katie came along. Maybe not a diamond but definitely a unique stone. It was an easy, natural connection for them both.

Cordell took his sweet time asking Katie on their first date. They met at Galvan's family restaurant where they were both super nervous. Cordell and Katie continued to go on dates. They went bowling, disc golfing, and various other dates. While bowling one day, Cordell asked Katie to go steady, aka be his girlfriend. Of course, Katie said yes. Katie and Cordell, both told each other they loved each other on the same day. For the official record book, Cordell said it first.

Cordell and Katie have been together (officially) since June 27, 2024. On June 27, 2025, they became engaged. They will become Mr. and Mrs. Bartelt on June 27, 2026. They close on their first home together in April 2026.
