Katie and Michael met in January 2023 on a New York City bar crawl celebrating their mutual friends Sarah and Alex (Alex had just finished his master’s program). Late in the night, Katie led the group to Pianos (an NYC institution!) for some dancing, only to find the bar was charging the guys a $20 cover. Katie and her friends (ever the feminists) thought that was ridiculous and offered to buy Michael and his friends a drink to make up for it. And the rest is history! Their first official date came the following week at Analogue, a cozy cocktail bar in Greenwich Village, where they quickly discovered how much they had in common. Both grew up in upstate New York, come from big Italian families, went to rival colleges in Pennsylvania, and work in tech in the city. (It wasn’t until a few dates later that Michael learned about Katie’s fear of skiing, but by then it was too late to back out!) Their first “serious relationship” moment happened after a day at the Bronx Zoo with Michael’s friends. Following a painfully hungover morning (they had celebrated Katie’s birthday the night before), they stopped by the original Little Italy on Arthur Ave, where Michael accidentally ate some sesame seeds and had an allergic reaction. Katie rushed him to the ER, and when the nurse asked who she was, Katie confidently said, “I’m his girlfriend.” Michael (mid-allergy attack) looked up and said, “You are?!” That year, they kept exploring each other’s neighborhoods (Michael’s in the East Village and Katie’s on the Upper West Side), meeting more of each other’s friends (though there was already plenty of overlap), and building a life together. One of their favorite memories from that first year was a two-week hiking and camping trip through Utah and Arizona’s national parks. After spending days in a tent without showers, hours in the car listening to podcasts, and helping each other through various anxiety-inducing situations (Katie with heights, Michael with allergies), they knew they didn’t want to spend any more time apart. They moved in together in early 2024 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where they have been ever since. They quickly embraced their “suburban NYC” era, working from home, dog-sitting, walking and biking through Prospect Park, having date nights at their favorite Italian spot on 5th Ave, and getting far too excited about Whole Foods runs. One of their favorite things about their new, "big" Brooklyn apartment is hosting friends from out of town and throwing parties for their NYC besties. Over the next two years, Katie and Michael made countless memories close to home and abroad. They celebrated 30th birthdays all over the city, danced their way through friends’ weddings from New York to California (and even Spain), and squeezed in plenty of adventures together. Some of their favorite trips include a camping getaway to Yosemite, visiting Katie’s family in Nashville and in Disney, and traveling through Spain, Italy, France, and Hawaii. On September 27, 2025, Michael surprised Katie by proposing during one of their regular walks in Prospect Park, and then whisked her away to a surprise celebration at their favorite neighborhood ale house with friends and family. We can’t wait to celebrate our wedding surrounded by our favorite people. We love love (see you all soon!) ❤️
