I hate the cliché of “you’ll find love when least expecting it” but damn if that isn’t true. On our small island, hundreds of encounters being any one of my many beer promotions, cookoffs, Chiliquest 2017 stands out for us, an annual costume birthday party set in October that I have attended for over a decade, crawfish at Beerfoot or one of my favorites, January 23, 2020, my brothers surprise 40th birthday to which Adam asks the bartenders “who the hell are all these people in my bar?” and the response was “Youngbloods, now shut up”. I was completely content to live a single life on the island with plenty of friends and family around me, yet I found myself going to Beerfoot more frequently for happy hour as there was this adorable man, always there, who had the sweetest smile and just seemed like a good friend to have. That annual birthday party theme of 2021 was Wrestlemania. I dressed up as “The Blob” from Billy Madison and Adam was Mankind. This man actually kissed me later that night in that ridiculous costume and I knew he was the one.
