This is a love story fully orchestrated by God himself.
Katy and Alec met on a dating app, Hinge. (Now you understand the title) 😉
Katy was a single mother of her 5-year-old daughter, Sayge, and working two jobs at the time. Alec was in college with plans of moving to Barcelona for culinary school. (He skipped the Mami for the Mommy)
They talked for a few months before finally meeting and neither of them expected what was to come after the night they met face to face. But 4 hours of easy flowing conversation, and a couple glasses of wine later, they became inseparable. Their values aligned perfectly – faith, family, and creating a life of love and success.
Fast forward to a couple of months later when Alec met Sayge for the first time at Santa’s Winter Wonderland in Bryan, TX. She wanted NOTHING to do with him. (She’s a tough one…WHEW) But after a few more times of spending time together, they also became attached at the hip. Katy didn’t want someone to come and play “daddy” to Sayge, she wanted someone who would be a best friend to her. Someone who would put her first and value time with her, and that’s exactly what Alec did.
Things were going perfectly. The 3 little words “I love you” happened quickly with those two. They both adored each other’s family and visa-versa. Katy and Alec were enjoying camping trips, rodeos, ice-skating, and so much more, and then both of their lives were jolted.
Katy found out she was pregnant.
The feelings of joy and excitement quickly turned to fear and confusion. “Why now, God?” “Why us?” Those were questions they both struggled with daily. Things were so simple and now there is only confusion, chaos, and feelings of shame.
But our God is GOOD, GOOD father, and he turned things around, as He always does. He reminded the couple that ALL children are great blessings from Heaven (Thank you, Ciara for your relentless pursuit in sharing Jesus and what is true) and provided them with peace, joy, and comfort in His plans for their lives. Sayge called Alec “daddy” for the first time completely on her own timing. And Katy started clinging to a scripture that has made itself very well-known throughout her life, Jeremiah 29:11.
Lily was born on October 2, 2019. She has her daddy’s looks and her mama’s sass and independence! She lights up any room she occupies and brings constant laughter to others. A true blessing. Just like her big sister.
Although things weren’t always easy moving forward, the couple has worked hard on their parenting, relationship with each other, and relationship with God. They began couple’s counseling and made it an absolute priority to love each other harder through the difficult times. Their love for each other has grown bigger than they thought possible and they know, without a doubt, that God created each of them for one another.
On December 25th, 2020, Alec popped the question that Katy (and everyone else) had been waiting on!!! It was an absolute, without a doubt, ABOUT DANG TIME, solid YES.
