Our Story

It all began in Togo...

Katy and Mitch met for the first time in the summer of 2010. They were both Peace Corps volunteers in the tiny West African nation of Togo, and they had both signed up to organize a national health camp for Togolese kids.

Unbeknownst to Mitch, Katy already had a huge crush on him after seeing him for the first time during her training week a year before. They had never actually met, but Katy was very excited when she heard that she would be working with Mitch to plan this camp. Throughout the camp, they got to know each other and began to feel a strong connection. The last night of the camp, sparks flew, and the two fell pretty hard for one another.*

Sadly, Mitch's Peace Corps service came to an end a couple of weeks later and Katy still had a full year and a half left ahead of her in Togo. They said goodbye and hoped they would see each other again one day.

A year and a half later, Katy moved to the Big Apple where Mitch happened to be in graduate school. The connection between them was re-kindled, but life back in America was definitely a change for both of them. They dated on and off for a few months as each of them were trying to figure out where they wanted their lives to go.

Mitch says that it was at Katy's housewarming party at her new apartment where he fell in love. It's safe to say Katy was already pretty smitten, so things moved pretty quickly from there. They moved into an apartment together in Brooklyn and settled quickly into their new life together.

On Katy's 29th birthday, the two were on vacation at a camp ground in St. John. Mitch led them to a secluded beach at midnight and proposed that they spend the rest of their lives together. They are looking forward to a life full of compassion, love, and adventure together.

*For those interested in an unedited version, Katy did a live story telling of how this whole week went down and is happy to share with friends!
