In November of 2021 Alan moved to Hastings, NE where he works as a lead meteorologist for the National Weather Service. Kate also worked as a meteorologist for the NWS in Hastings during this time and had been there for 3.5 years already. As the schedule would have it, Kate and Alan ended up working a lot of shifts together over the next couple of months. They quickly grew to enjoy each other's company and found common ground over things like music, video games, and humor.

February rolls around and Kate finds herself wanting to spend more time with Alan, so she asks him to dinner. To both their surprise, he said yes! They went to dinner at Kinkaider Brewery and had a great time and agreed to keep seeing each other (even though Alan was very wary about dating a co-worker and had sworn to himself that he never would). There was just something about her that he couldn't place, but he was drawn to her.

April rolls around and they attend a conference together in Iowa, on the drive back they had "the" conversation and decided that they were officially in a relationship. So what now? They decided they would wait a couple of months to tell the office and kind of feel things out. From there on the love between them only grew.

Fast forward to February 2024, they are in Tucson visiting Alan's family. It is the last day that Kate will be there (while Alan stayed another 2 weeks). Alan had been keeping a secret all week long, he had bought a ring and was going to propose. They decide to go for a walk at the man made wetlands and when the moment was right, he asked her to marry him. She very happily said yes! Now on June 21st, 2025 we get to celebrate their love!
