In the summer of 2010, Katy was fresh out of college, and Jim was on summer break. As luck would have it, they had both taken jobs with Mercersburg Academy's Summer ESL Program in Mercersburg, PA, 20 miles from Katy's hometown of Chambersburg. The first time they met was at the luncheon on the first day of camp. Jim had long hair, and Katy thought he looked like a British indie rocker. After lunch, the group went to Wal-Mart to purchase supplies for the program. Katy remembers being impressed with Jim's taste in music. She invited him to hang out with the teacher group later that evening. They had their first official date the following week at Mikie's Ice Cream Parlor in Mercersburg. The rest, as they say, is history!
Katy and Jim had just moved to Ithaca. Jim had hidden the ring inside their new apartment, and was waiting for the right moment to propose. The two of them had just had a romantic dinner at an Italian restaurant in town. They came home and Jim handed Katy a photo album that had pictures of the two of them from all throughout their relationship. The final page of the photo album was just a sheet of paper that read "Reserved for Engagement Photo." Jim then got down on one knee and proposed. With tears in her eyes, Katy said yes.
