Our Wedding

Kavin and Karyn met through Kathryn and Michael. Michael was dating Kathryn and when Michael came to Penang to visit, he wanted her to meet his friend, Kavin, from flying school. When they met, Kathryn asked Kavin, "Do you have a girlfriend?" to which he replied "No." This led to Kathryn saying, "I have a sister, add her on Instagram!"

How we met

Kathryn told Karyn to approve his Instagram request. After a week, Karyn received her first message from him. Karyn posted a story of Nasi Kandar she received for her firm lunch and he replied her story with an essay...

Kavin's first instagram message

For their first date, Kavin took Karyn to Miraku because Kathryn told him Japanese was her favourite cuisine. Karyn was impressed by his effort because he admitted that he watched a YouTube video on how to correctly eat Sashimi. It was also the one and only time Kavin opened the car door for Karyn. They later had bubble tea along Karpal Singh drive at Daboba and spoke till 1am. Funnily enough, at the end of the night, Kavin and Karyn came to the conclusion that THEY DID NOT LIKE EACH OTHER. No photo cause it was such an awkward date.

The following night, Karyn was on video call with John and Anusha (telling them about her bad date) when Kavin texted Karyn asking her to go have supper with him after work. Karyn was reluctant but with John and Anusha's encouragement (and/or nagging), Karyn agreed. John's famous line will always be "Just go have supper and make a new friend, no one is asking you to marry him".

After meeting a few more times, Kavin invited Karyn for a road trip to Ipoh. They took their first photo together in front of Kellie's Castle. It was this trip that changed Karyn's mind about Kavin and vice versa.

At Christmas time, Kavin and Karyn were at the crossroads of their relationship, however, they persevered and decided to take their relationship to the next level as a couple.

Kavin proposed to Karyn in her bedroom after collecting the ring because he was too excited to keep a secret. Karyn was on her way to shower and get ready for a night out but Kavin said "I got you a present from the mall". Despite looking like a mess, he still proposed with a gem in her favourite colour; a dark blue sapphire.

On 16th February 2023, Kavin and Karyn registered their marriage in the presence of their closest family and friends. To signify the union of their interracial marriage, Kavin wore a tang suit and Karyn wore a saree.

Because really, what else is better than eating good Penang food?

1. KAYU ORIGINAL PENANG NASI KANDAR

Pros: Great place to lepak for a midnight snack. The famous tall roti tisu is available here. Open 24 hours (supposedly) ﻿Cons: Pricey and not the cleanest place on Earth.

2. KEDAI KOPI BOBO 

Pros:Amazing breakfast place. We recommend the Hokkien Mee and Curry Mee (Penang's version, of course). This is also the famous kopitiam that serves its drinks in tins cans. Cons:Food runs out fast so be here before 9.30am-10am. Yes, the food here is that good.

3. Arena Curve

Arena Curve is full of different restaurants and cuisine that you will sure find something to suit your tastebuds! Pros:Wide variety of food! Parking is easy and affordable too. Cons: If you don't find anything you want to eat, you'd have to drive out somewhere else.

4. 2F COFFEE ROASTERY

If you are looking for a comfortable cafe to unwind, we recommend this place! The rose latte with waffle is a great combination. Pros:Great ambiance to relax. Family friendly with great coffee and desserts. Cons: Looking for a place to park can be a little difficult here.
