This piece is a compilation of thoughts from the bride and groom, melded together into a story that reflects both their hearts — how they met, how they fell in love, and the beautiful journey that led them here today.
Some love stories take time to unfold; others feel like they were written in the stars from the very beginning. Theirs is a little bit of both.
It all began at the YMCA in Platte City, Missouri. Alex was a personal trainer, and Kaycee had just started her internship. From the moment she saw him, she noticed his confidence, his energy, his kindness, and, of course, his muscles<>. He and his friends may or may not have been those cool guys flexing in the mirror at each other, acting like they owned the place. You could say Kaycee took notice — watching from afar and catching glimpses of him in class. It was one such yoga class that broke the ice between them. Although neither of them knew it at the time, something special had begun.
At the time, Alex wasn’t necessarily looking for a relationship, but fate has a way of ignoring our plans. As they spent more and more time together at work, talking and joking, something began to shift. What started as casual conversations turned into late-night texts and Snapchats, and, eventually, hanging out outside of work. As time passed, their feelings only grew stronger.
If you ask Alex what it was about Kaycee that drew him to her, he would say it’s impossible to pinpoint just a few things — because every day reveals something new and wonderful. However, initially, it was her blue eyes, her smile, sense of humor, authenticity, and how easy she was to talk to that stood out most. It might have also been the way she sings in the shower without a care in the world. For Kaycee, it was his confidence, gentleness, patience, and sincerity that captured her heart. Over the course of many months, this pair was well on their way to falling in love. But one weekend solidified everything.
The moment Alex knew he loved Kaycee was the weekend she first met his brother (Andrew) and sister (Olivia). After spending the weekend together, Kaycee naturally found herself constantly trying to clean up after everyone to make sure the house looked tidy when his parents arrived back home. Andrew — in true Andrew fashion, wanting to make sure she had fun too — looked at her and commanded, “Kaycee, take your mom pants off, and put your party pants on!” Everyone laughed hysterically. By the end of the evening, both Alex and Kaycee knew this was it. Meeting each other’s parents soon thereafter only confirmed what they already knew — everything just felt right.
Now going strong as a couple, Alex and Kaycee became truly unshakable after Andrew passed away. That was when they realized just how much they needed each other. Losing Andrew was devastating and unthinkable, and Alex tried to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, always putting others before himself. Kaycee did her best to constantly be there for him, even when she didn’t always know the right words to say. Although he never wanted anyone to worry about him, Kaycee always did. It was in those moments of grief that she saw just how strong he was, how deeply he loved his family and friends, and how dedicated he was to lifting up everyone else around him up. And, in Kaycee, Alex saw the genuine, positive, compassionate, and strong confidant he wanted to stand by his side forever.
From that point on, everything else was just icing on the cake. They’ve spent years making memories — road trips, vacations, late-night talks, and laughing until Kaycee wheezes like a lawn mower running out of gas (Alex’s words). You could say they balance each other out beautifully. She keeps him grounded, and he reminds her not to take life too seriously. He gives her the space to grow but always shows up when she needs him. And, more than anything, they make each other feel truly, deeply loved.
When they talk about the future, both of them beam — about their wonderful dog Dexter, the home they are building, the life they are embracing, and the family they hope to create one day. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, he knows Kaycee will be an amazing mom, just like she knows he will be the best dad ever. Officially dating since November 13th, 2021 and engaged on July 31st, 2024, Alex and Kaycee have no doubt that together is exactly where they belong. Although the journey hasn’t been perfect, it has been theirs. And through every challenge, every adventure, and every quiet moment in between, one thing has remained certain — they were always meant to find their way to each other.
