Swipe Right Magic
(August 30, 2018)
Over 5 years ago, Kayla and Jared’s paths first crossed with a simple swipe right. Yes, thats right, Kayla and Jared met on the dating app, Bumble. Kayla, a hopeless romantic whose best friend (after much hesitation) convinced her to try online dating, and Jared, a recent college graduate back home looking to make some friends, matched on a fateful day in August. Each of their bios intrigued the other. Their chat sparked—a symphony of questions, shared playlists, and inside jokes. Little did they know a simple swipe would lead to something so extraordinary...
Discovering Common Ground
(Aug.-Sept. 2018)
For the next month straight, Kayla and Jared talked endlessly, from favorite movies (Kayla adored rom-coms, while Jared enjoyed any movie about war) to their mutual love for travel and family. They soon discovered they shared more than just a love for the same kind of food and music. Days turned into weeks, and their connection only deepened. From their deep-rooted family values to their mutual obsession with ice cream, they were practically two peas in a pod. But as they dug deeper, they also realized they had plenty of differences. Kayla had never experienced the joy of lakeside summers or the thrill of razor rides in the desert. And don’t even get her started on the butter debacle—apparently, it’s still edible outside the fridge!
Sweet First Encounter
(Sept. 30th, 2018)
After a month of anticipation, they finally decided to meet in person. Kayla was insistent on meeting somewhere in public - you can never be too careful. On a Sunday night, they settled on a quirky yet charming spot for their first date: a rolled ice cream parlor. Why? Because life is too short for vanilla scoops and predictable dates and what better way to break the ice (cream) than with ice cream? The first-meet nervousness melted away faster than the ice cream on the griddle. Their first date was a swirl of laughter, awkward moments, and delicious frozen treats—a perfect reflection of their budding connection. The rolled ice cream became a metaphor for their relationship—unexpected, delightful, and a little messy.
Love Knows No Distance
(March 11th, 2019)
But just when things were heating up, life threw them a curveball. Jared was off to military boot camp for five long months, leaving them both to navigate the ups and downs of a long-distance relationship. Despite the miles between them, their bond only grew stronger, fueled by detailed letters about their days, late-night phone calls and virtual hugs. The letters weren’t just ink and paper; they were lifelines. They carried laughter, longing, and promises. When Jared missed home, Kayla’s words wrapped around him like a warm embrace and when Kayla faced tough days, Jared’s replies were her anchor. Their connection may have started over a quirky rolled ice cream date but it was the handwritten letters—the ink on paper—that truly sealed their fate.
Reunited and It Felt So Good
(July 19th, 2019)
Soon Jared returned and they continued with their romance, right where they left off. From going on dates to the local farm, enjoying a picnic after a scenic hike, many annual trips to Kaylas happy place (Pismo Beach) and many more ice cream dates, they continued to become each others best friend and adventure buddy. Kayla graduated college and soon they both began their long-term careers. Fast forward a few years, Kayla and Jared shared a cozy home, adorned with photos and memories, but something was missing...
Home Is Where The Dog Is
(November 4th, 2022)
In the midst of their romance, they decided to add a furry friend to the mix. Their faithful companion? Toby Keith, the curious toy poodle, who steals socks and hearts and has a personality as big as his country namesake. Toby witnessed their late-night conversations, wagging his tail as if he understood their whispered secrets. With Toby by their side, their little family felt complete.
A Proposal Amongst the Pines
(December 2nd, 2023)
Finally, the day we ALL had been waiting for!
Fast forward to December 2023, in the snowy pines of Brian Head, Utah. What started as their annual Christmas tree chopping trip, turned into a moment they’ll never forget. With the scent of pine in the air, twinkling lights up above, and snow-capped trees surrounding them, Jared dropped to one knee and popped the question. Of course, Kayla said YES, and their journey from dating app match to happily ever after officially began.
From swiping right to saying I do, theirs is a journey filled with laughter, tears, and more than a few melted ice cream cones along the way. But through it all, one thing remains certain: their love is as sweet and enduring as a scoop of their favorite ice cream.
And as they wait for their big day to arrive, they remember:
Sometimes love feels mellow and calm (like vanilla)...
Sometimes it feels energetic, bold, and too much to handle (like cold-brew coffee) ...
Sometimes it feels tried and true (like chocolate)...
As the same with love, like ice cream, you have to enjoy it while it's there or it melts and you lose that chance. You can never recreate those movements in the past because time moves on. So today, Kayla and Jared always remind each other to enjoy the moments when they are happening.
To this day, they like to think of their love as Cookies and Cream ice cream ... it is mainly stable, mellow, and calm with the vanilla, but all those bits of cookies mixed in are the unexpected surprises and adventures that they have together along the way.
