After Kayla graduated from the University of Minnesota, she moved back home to keep working at her internship and start applying for full-time jobs. To make some extra money, she picked up a part-time waitressing job at Fitz’s on the Lake — which just so happened to be the same restaurant Chris grew up down the street from. Chris was spending his summer and weekends serving there while finishing his engineering degree at UW–Platteville.

There was an instant crush (and yes, Chris was a little bummed he didn’t get to train the new waitress 😅). After a summer full of flirting — and lots of hangman games between tables — Chris finally asked Kayla out.

We spent a year dating long-distance while Kayla worked in Minneapolis and Chris finished school. Once he graduated, Kayla decided it was time to be closer to family (and finally end the long distance!), so she packed her bags and moved back to Wisconsin for us to start our next chapter together.

Now we’re settled in Waunakee with our dog, Finn — our favorite little family.
