156 Days To Go!

Our Love Story

Something we are always saying is that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the worst situations can be used for good just like how our life together began.
February 23 of 2022 I was on the way to the hospital due to ongoing migraines and weakness on the left side of my body. Of course my mom told me before I got there to “be on the look out for a cute Dr, Nurse, EMT, or something because you need a husband!” Well mom your prayers were answered!

Sitting in the hospital bed of Hoke First Health Hospital, me and my dad were told what was found on my MRI scans. I had a series of small strokes. My world became dark and distant and all I could ask was why? Well I was about to find out...

I went into work like it was any other day. As an EMT training to become a paramedic, going to pick up my first patient. I knew it was going to be a long night. My partner and I were responding to a call to transfer a Stroke Patient from Hoke to Moore First Health Hospital. Upon arrival to Hoke, patient was... wait this isnt my chart. ANYWAYS... while walking down the hallway I saw her sitting in one of the beds, and a scary looking bearded man in the seat beside her.

If I could put a face palm emoji on this thing I would.
I was waiting for a bed at Moore when my transportation arrived and I saw him. Dark brown eyes and dark curly hair, this was during COVID so we were all wearing masks but that curly hair of his, Im a sucker for the curly hair! He asked me if I could walk and I almost said no just so he would have to help me, but I said yes and I got onto the stretcher.

I was trying to do my job and here she was distracting me! It was the brown eyes for me.

During their assessment I had to squeeze his hands and if it wasnt for my sweaty hands I wouldnt have let go..

I could tell she was nervous because of her sweaty hands, she was so beautiful I didnt care.

They put me in the ambulance, of course he had to drive and I couldnt talk to him... it sucked. So I sat there coming up with a million things to say to him before I never saw him again.

The transport felt like forever, I just wanted to talk to her!

We got to the hospital and the whole way to the room we talked and joked about me having a fake stroke, because I didnt have any physical symptoms. He made me laugh and I loved him for it. When we got to my room, just as he was about to leave I told him not to make me have another fake stroke to get him to come back and see me.

My partner told me I had to go back and get her number. As my shift was ending I of course went back to her room to ask her for her number, but her doctors and her dad were in the room and I didnt want to put her on the spot, I had to come up with something to say to her.

He told me he forgot my signature... typical male.

I then put my amazing search skills to use and found her on social media!

He looked at my chart and saw my adopted last name is Mims. Hes smart, i’ll give him that much.
We started dating April 2nd of 2023 and moved in together December 1st. He became my best friend. Even on the days I want to strangle him I cant imagine my life without him.

Shes my biggest supporter and everyday I cant wait to come home to her.

Thank you for reading our love story.
