Kayla and Nathan first met in the fall of 2004. They attended Burlington Elementary School in Roanoke, VA and shared the same 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Gibson. They had crushes on each other, but neither of them told the other.

Kayla and her family moved shortly before the end of the year. They moved to Buchanan Virginia, just 45 minutes away. Although Nathan thought they moved back to Nebraska, and for two fourth graders, it may as well have been.

Fast forward to fall of 2019. Kayla saw Nathan and recognized him as they were both getting lunch at Chipotle. She then found him on social media and they made lunch plans. Neither of them were certain if they were on a date or if they were just two people having lunch. If you ask today, you will still get mixed answers. Regardless, from there they were inseparable.

That is, until Kayla took a job in Cleveland Ohio. When Kayla graduated from her Physician Assistant program, she wanted to pursue Interventional Radiology, an image guided surgical specialty. Due to the specialized nature of this field, she had to look outside of the Roanoke area.

Kayla and Nathan decided to do long distance so that she could pursue her dream. Nathan was not fond of Cleveland. He had been there many times to visit his fathers family and to attend NFL games (Go Browns!). However after four months apart, he decided he loved Kayla more than he didnt like Ohio, and moved to be with her. Ohio has since grown on him but Roanoke will always be home for them both.

A new job for Kayla in Richmond, has moved them back to Virginia where they currently live with their dog Roman and cat Pico.

Nathan proposed on February 20th, 2024 in Clearwater Florida while they were visiting his grandparents, Linda and Bob Johnson. He proposed on the beach and had a photographer to take pictures of the moment.

They will be celebrating 5 years together on November 8th, 2024 and are getting married the very next day. They are so looking forward to be celebrating with their friends and family!
