Our story dates back to 2016 when Kaylee was a sophomore and Carter was a junior at Roosevelt High School. Through our mutual involvement in Concert Choir, Student Council, and AP World History, we became good friends over the course of the year. That great friendship gradually grew to become more, and at the end of the summer of 2017, Carter officially asked Kaylee to be his girlfriend! We enjoyed spending Kaylee's junior and Carter's senior year together, from school dances to choir concerts to baseball games.
The following year kicked off the start of dating long distance, as Carter moved south to pursue a Nursing degree and play baseball Morningside University in Sioux City, IA. After finishing up her senior year at RHS, Kaylee then moved north to pursue a Music Education degree and sing in choir at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Though our busy schedules made it difficult to make the 5-hour trip to visit one another very often, we stayed connected through a lot of FaceTime calls, made our best efforts to attend each other's games and concerts, and enjoyed reconnecting over holiday breaks and summers in Sioux Falls.
Finally, after both graduating college in 2023, our five-year stretch of long distance came to an end! We both moved up to Fargo to pursue our new careers — Carter began working in the intermediate ICU at Sanford, and Kaylee became the new choir director at Moorhead High School. Together, we enjoyed acclimating to our new post-grad lives and spending our free time exploring new places in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Come December of 2023, we both looked forward to some well-deserved time off to celebrate the holiday season with our families in Sioux Falls. Little did Kaylee know, Carter was plotting a surprise that would call for even more celebration. After nearly 6.5 years together, the long-awaited day finally came when Carter proposed to Kaylee just before the new year! We enjoyed celebrating our exciting news with family and friends before returning up north to share the news with our coworkers and students.
Since then, we have been enjoying our engagement and planning for the big day. We could not be more thrilled for where the rest of our story will lead!
