Our Wedding

Kayleigh: Josh and I met at church, surprise, surprise. We met somewhere around January 2020. I remember our first conversation was about our common experiences with Young Life (again, are we surprised). Shortly after, he followed me on Instagram, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little giddy, but I didn't think much of it. A few months passed and then COVID happened. I was in the process of transferring lifegroups and ended up being placed in the lifegroup that Josh was in. We were meeting over zoom at the time because, COVID. I immediately noticed his inquisitive and quirky faces as people were talking and as he talked as well. I was intrigued by his perspectives and the passion he had when talking about the Bible and justice in particular. I wanted to know more about his story. Then, all of a sudden I started getting messages on instagram from him. You might think "aww" but it wasn't "aww." He was sending me pictures of the crazy faces I was making during lifegroup on zoom. At first, I was embarrassed, but then he let it slip that he thought I was cute (awww, I guess). We messaged on and off from there and then one day, Josh hit me with the most romantic text ever, saying "if you ever want to talk and have a conversation let me know." I had no idea what that meant but told him I was free Monday night. He was in Louisiana at the time so the beginning of our connection was over facetime. When he got back to Columbia in June 2020, he asked me on our first date. I knew pretty quickly after our first date that I was invested in our relationship and could be best friends with him forever. I felt, and still do feel so lucky and undeserving to be pursued and loved by Josh. Every day is an adventure with him, and I'm so excited for all the days to come. If you're reading this, thanks so much for being part of our journey. Josh: Its funny how Kayleigh felt like she was undeserving to be pursued and loved by me, when I also felt so undeserving to be known and loved by her. She is a beautiful woman with an incredible heart and story. A woman that so deserves to be loved and cared for. I knew that I had to be clear with my pursuit and intentions. I had to, as best as I could, make it known that she is my priority. So after our first date, we hung out some more. We wanted to be around each other anytime we could. Whenever we didn't hang out, she was on my mind constantly. I would literally daydream about our next date, hugging her, and holding her hand. Then that day happened. I asked her in the most formal way possible; "Hey, you wanna be my girl?" And she surprisingly said "Yes!" And so for the next 14 months we dated. The best 14 months of my life. And then the big day happened. That morning, I remember being very excited and very nervous. I mean this was the first time that had ever done this (it was her first time as well). I remember praying multiple times for the Lord's grace and joy as I would ask Kayleigh the most important question I've ever asked anyone. I had written a poem for Kayleigh about a few weeks before this day. And I read it multiple times that morning to make sure it made sense. (And to practice reading it without crying). I picked her up from her house. As we were heading to the spot she had already figured out where we going. Mind you, she figured out that I was going to propose to her the night before. (you see, she asked me the night before what I wanted to do the next day and I replied with a very detailed plan, when normally I just wing it). So, we headed to horizon garage, and I asked her to sit up on the ledge. I then I pulled out the poem and read a long, cheesy poem about her beauty and worth. Soooo... the practicing did not work out. I cried. After the poem, I expressed to her how much she means to me and how there's no doubt that I want to spend the rest of my life wth her. And I got down on my knee and asked Kayleigh to be my wife for life. And she gave me another surprising "Yes." It is an absolute joy to get to marry the love of my life, my best friend, and my babygirl. I'm excited to be on this journey with Kayleigh.
