It was the spring of my junior year, and I heard about a speed dating event from a few of my baseball teammates who said they would be going. I said I would go if a few other guys went, and sure enough, they said yes. I went, had a couple of awkward conversations and nothing special, and then found myself sitting across from Kaylyn. I recognized her from a volleyball tournament we had worked together. She was super well-dressed and she was very straightforward with her questions. She brought up a couple of things where I had connections and it seemed like we kept having specific things in common. It was one of the last conversations I had that night, but I remember going back to my room and telling my roommates I had a really good conversation with one girl, Kaylyn. She added me on Instagram which I thought was cool and maybe a first step. But I really got the message when she added me on Snapchat. We started snapping each other and it took me a while but I finally just asked if she wanted to hang out sometime. We went bowling and pretty much hit it off from there. We just kept seeing each other more and more until we made it official and now here we are getting married!
It was my freshman year at UNW and I was having the best time with my roommates and best friends. School was going well and so was volleyball. There was one particular weekend where I had been refereeing a very large tournament to raise money for our volleyball mission trip. It was a super fun/exhausting weekend right before valentines day. When I got back from reffing, I had heard that there was a speed dating event that my business department was putting on on Valentines Day. Naturally, being THE most outgoing girl in my friend group and someone who loved getting to know others, I had convinced myself that my single roommates and I should all do this. I just knew this would be such a fun event to go to (who doesn’t like meeting others- especially boys?!?!)! Though they were reluctant, I brought them along- even paying for this epic experience. After conversing with so many guys, no one really stuck out. As the evening was coming to a close, this super cute, dark-haired, shy guy sat down right in front of me. It was almost instantaneously that I (we) had recognized each other from the previous weekend. THIS was the boy that I had seen walking around with all of the athletic trainers all weekend! During our first convo, we hit it off. I hit him with some harder questions and definitely put him on the spot, but hey I only had 3 minutes and I was gonna make the most of it! After the evening was over, I couldn’t stop talking about him to my roommates. I knew he was on the baseball team and I had a connection to someone on the team. I asked for his snapchat from a friend (I just figured the outgoing girl should get things going :) and added him. I really wanted to get the message across that I was super interested and requested to follow him on Insta. After I made my move I left it up to him to make the next move and ask me out… lets just say he did and the rest is history!
