Dustin and Kaylyn met at their job, as archaeologists in Reno Nevada. After working at the same company for a year, they both finally landed on the same crew. Dustin was leading a crew at Hog Ranch and they were to stay in Gerlach for 8 days; best part? It was around Halloween! The work during the day was overwhelming and the weather was cold and windy. After work, Dustin, Kaylyn and their other crew mates went on adventures where they really got to know one another. Kaylyn borrowed a bike from the town bike library and followed Dustin around town. They snuck into hot springs at night, got kicked out of bars, dressed up for halloween and had an amazing week in Gerlach. Here, a seed of love and a lifetime of adventure had been planted.
However, after this work week, Kaylyn decided to travel to Australia to meet up with her best friend Milan who was living in Sydney. There was still more world to travel and Kaylyn would be back at her job in Reno after a once in a lifetime work-holiday down under.
While in Australia, Kaylyn bought a bike and rode 500 miles down the coast, seeing cities and camping on the beach every night. Kaylyn and Dustin kept in touch and Kaylyn asked him biking questions, knowing he'd think she was really cool for going on this trip.
When Kaylyn returned to Reno to work again with Dustin at their company ( Kautz), she was lucky enough to be placed on Dustin's crew again, but this time they would be camping all summer in the Montezuma Mountains in Goldfield.
During these times, the two go to know each other even more. They appreciated each others playfulness, sense of humor, and excitement for exploring their own backyard.
They decided to go on a camping trip together, to the Owyhee River.
They rode in Dustin's big red truck with Chaco and set off on another adventure; one of not only nature and sport but of love as well.
And it is here that the rest became history! Kaylyn and Dustin are lucky enough to have found each other in this world and they are excited to move forward on this journey called life together.
Since then, they have gone on many more dog walks, bike rides, and road trips. The lovebirds went on a camping trip to Point Reyes National Seashore and drove north on the 1 to explore the coast and visit Kaylyn's hometown in Humboldt County, California. On another trip, they went to Catalina Island and took the ferry with their bikes and rode around the whole island! Kaylyn and Dustin then snuck into empty campgrounds, forgot to buy permits, and neglected to bring helmets. Accidently naughty, purposefully fun.
In July of 2024, this beautiful couple excitedly went with 7 friends and 5 dogs to the Ruby Mountains and hiked the Ruby Crest Trail, taking 5 glorious days to hike 30 miles. Unbeknownst to Kaylyn, Dustin and their friends had planned a surprise engagement at Overland Lake. The ladies took Kaylyn on a little hike while Dustin and the boys hung string lights in the trees and put on one a favorite Tyler Childers songs. He popped the question while they were swing dancing at sunset. They finished the backpacking trip and left the mountains as an engaged couple.
On halloween of 2024, they bought a home together in Carson City. They are so proud and happy to have taken this step together. These soulmates can't thank their supportive parents enough for allowing them to live at home in order to save for their own place.
Kaylyn and Dustin hope that you have enjoyed their little story. There will certainly be many more to come! These two have big dreams and a lot of goals in their lifetime. See you at the wedding!
