Tyler and I met during my last semester of college in spring 2021. We were paired together for a midterm project in our Law & Politics class. At the end of the semester, I emailed the professor requesting that I be paired with Tyler for the final project as well. Because our school was, to some extent, still following Covid protocols, we had to give the final presentation over Zoom from a remote location. Tyler and I decided to meet in a library study room.

Our final presentation was my last final, and it took place only a few hours before I had to attend my graduation ceremony. Tyler brought wine to the library study room for us to drink in celebration following our presentation. We were both relatively newly single and I like to think of this as our first unofficial date. We had exchanged numbers to communicate about our final presentation which allowed us to remain in contact after I graduated. As we headed home for the summer, we were pleased to learn that our parents lived only 12 minutes apart.

We went on our first official date to the movies 5 days after I graduated. Tyler asked me to officially be his girlfriend on June 22, 2021 and he proposed on December 31, 2022.

Our proposal took place in Oahu, Hawaii. Our original flight to Hawaii was cancelled right as we got to the airport (thanks Southwest). Tyler scrambled to rebook us on a new flight and, unbeknownst to me, to reschedule our engagement. On the morning of our engagement, Tyler asked me to get up early to see the sunrise with him. As we walked on the beach, I was very surprised to see a photographer and Tyler popped the question. He did a great job of making sure I was surprised and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful engagement
