Our Wedding

In 2016, Kelly was working in the surgery department at Midwestern University when David joined as an Associate Professor in Emergency and ICU. Because they worked in different departments, their interactions were limited to the occasional patient transfers and passing pleasantries. Everything changed in 2020. When the pandemic hit, the university sent all students home, and Kelly’s surgery lab temporarily shut down. As a result, she was transferred to the Oncology department, where she and David began working near each other. Over time, they discovered they had several things in common—a love for working out, Disney movies, and an oddly specific dislike for drinking plain water unless it was flavored or bubbly. It was well known around the hospital that David had accepted an Emergency and Critical Care Residency at Auburn University and would be leaving Midwestern that summer. Shortly after, he expressed interest in getting to know Kelly better and asked her out on a date. Even though he was set to leave in just a few months, Kelly thought, "Why not? It probably won’t amount to anything," as dating often goes. Their first date was on a park bench, though not in the way they imagined. Due to social distancing rules, a park security guard insisted they remain six feet apart, so they sat on separate benches and chatted from a distance.And as they say—the rest was history! That summer, Kelly and David packed up his belongings, all the animals, and set off for Auburn, Alabama. The journey was anything but smooth—a blown tire on the highway and a truck AC failure somewhere in Texas made sure of that—but they made it work. The next three years of David’s residency were long and challenging. They visited each other every 3-4 months, counting down the days until it was behind them. Finally, in the summer of 2023, David completed his residency, passed his board exams (of course!), and moved to Parker, Colorado, where he and Kelly had purchased a cozy log cabin to settle down with their beloved four-legged family.
