After their meeting, they kept in touch through text for about a week with brief exchanges and check-ins about how each other’s days were going. Then Kelly asked Davey if they should talk on the phone or FaceTime.

Kelly: “I suggested FaceTime only because I knew he didn’t have an iPhone at the time and was completely flustered when he informed me he had an iPad.”

Davey: “I knew her suggesting FaceTime was a clear sign that my green text bubbles were going to be a strain on this new relationship, but having an iPad I feel, saved the moment."

Davey called Kelly via FaceTime and they accidentally talked to each other for more than six hours. Following that night, their next several weeks involved limited sleep and FaceTime dates averaging between 5-8 hours nightly. On one occasion, Davey’s alarm to wake up for work began going off when they were still talking.

Davey: “Shortly after our first FaceTime date, I figured I liked her enough, and I made the switch to an iPhone."

Kelly: "Just to set the record straight, I never said a word about his green text bubbles! But I would be lying if I said I wasn't happy when he got an iPhone four days after we met."

After three weeks of talking, Davey scheduled a flight to Eugene and came to town for 36 hours.

Kelly: “I was cleaning my house incessantly and was so, so nervous. I was lucky that I had some friends to text about my nerves and that my friend in Colorado called to help me process my nerves aloud while I was driving to the airport to pick Davey up.”

Davey: “I remember, I was so nervous I had to call Josh from the plane. I asked him, 'Am I crazy to fly out to see this girl?' Lucky for Kelly, Josh didn’t think I was crazy and told me that this could be the start of a crazy story. Now I'm not going to say he was right because... it's Josh, but this has been quite an amazing story."

This visit was followed by many others for the next 8 months until Davey moved from Denver to Eugene, Memorial Day Weekend, 2016. Fast-forwarding to September 27, 2018, Davey and Kelly were dropped off at the Eugene airport together to fly to Arizona for the wedding of two friends. Shortly before going through security, Davey strategically chose to get down on the ground and go through his bags to make sure he was clear to go through security. He did this in the exact place that he saw Kelly standing the first time he flew into Eugene to see her. It was in this spot, Davey took Kelly by surprise by pulling out a ring and asking her to marry him.
