There are lots of incredible game reserves to choose from. Kruger National Park is perhaps SA most famous and would be easy to visit on your way in our out of the country, but we recommend Hluhluwe-imfolozi Game reserve which is just over 200km North from King Shaka International Airport. We also recommend hiring your own 4x4 vehicle to explore the reserve as it gives you greater flexibility and freedom. If you are keen to see a hippo, then visiting the isiMangaliso wetland park in St Lucia is the place to go.

Cape Town is a vibrant and buzzing city with lots to see and do. You can ride a cable car up Table Mountain, explore the V&A Waterfront, visit the African penguin at Boulders Beach, learn about the city’s rich history at The Cape of Good Hope, Robin Island and The Castle of Good Hope, shop in its many markets, drink some of the country’s best wines in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and much more.
Our wedding venue’s closest city is Durban. Here, you can explore Zulu culture through places such as Shakaland and the Markets of Warwick - there are formal guided tours through these markets which will take you to explore traditional foods, medicine and arts and crafts. Another Durban ‘must-do’ is experiencing the local Indian cuisine by enjoying a ‘Bunny Chow’ (does not contain rabbit). A kid-friendly activity is the aquarium and water fun park at uShaka Marine World. There are also a number of amazing markets selling artisanal jewelry, clothing, art and crafts - namely the iHeart Market and the Shongweni Farmers’ Market.
One of South Africa's most beautiful attractions are the Drakensberg Mountains. They are only a few hours drive from King Shaka International Airport. The highest mountain range in South Africa, boasting spectacular hikes and drives - perhaps even to the highest pub in Africa, they are worth a visit. You can also follow the Midlands Meander to experience some of the region’s excellent produce. This is the place to visit if you love hiking and driving on some hairy roads. You may also like to add a stamp to your passport by visiting The Kingdom of Lesoto - the country within South Africa's boarders.
These mountains are extra special to Karl and Kel because Karl popped the question on the lake at Lake Navarone.
Things to Do in the Drakensberg Region
There is so much to see and do in South Africa. It is an incredible destination. I know lots of people are often concerned about their safety and security, but if you are sensible you will be okay. Again, we highly recommend hiring a car while visiting SA, as there is little to no public transport. If you would like any more advice or guidance on what to do, please don't hesitate to reach out to Kel.
