Q + A

What about hair appliances? Adapters? Wifi? Getting Cash?

The voltage in Ireland is different than the US. Please be sure your appliance is dual voltage. All hotels will have hair dryers. Don't forget an adapter to charge your phone, or use your dual voltage appliance. They are three prong and can be purchased inexpensively on amazon. If you don't want to generate a hefty international phone bill while away, utilize wifi whenever you enter a shop, restaurant, or hotel. It is readily available and will save you some $$$! The currency exchange and getting Euros: Most places accept cards, even for the smallest items. However, if you would like to have cash on hand, a local bank or atm is fine. There is usually a fee taggged on to an ATM withdrawl or bank exxchange. Important tip: when using an ATM there will be a prompt that asks you to accept the conversion rate. Respond "no" and you will get the current bank exchange rate (plus ATM fee). If you respond "yes", you will be charged that specific ATM's rate. So just say, "no".

When should we book our hotels?

If you know you are going to be able to travel to celebrate, make your hotel reservations right away. Take note of the cancellation policy, and understand there are only a certain number of rooms blocked at each recommended hotel. Please take note of and implement the booking code for each hotel, to utilize the discounted pricing.

When should we book our flights?

Begin checking flights as soon as you know if you are certain you will be able to attend. At the six month point, air seems to be at its best, but check back frequently and adjust. Keep in mind that Dublin Airport is a two hour drive to the wedding venue and Shannon Airport is just fifteen minutes.

What if we are traveling as a family?

We regret that we can not include everyone we would like for our drinks reception and dinner. While we stress our gratitude to you for making the trip for us, we hope that we can provide other experiences that your family can participate in with us. We welcome all family members to attend all activities surrounding the wedding with exception to the Drinks Reception and Dinner. For example, we hope to see everyone at the Welcome Reception (14th November), Ceremony, Dancing, Afters, etc.

What if our children are with us, but we want to dance the night away without them?

Dromoland Castle has engaged with LMM, in relation to providing child minding and baby-sitting services for families. Please contact via email hello@LMMCare.com and they will be happy to assist directly with individual requirements.

Is transportation provided to the ceremony and reception?

Yes, transportation will be provided to and from the ceremony and reception for all guests staying at one of our recommended hotels, and to all wedding events and activities.

Transportation will also be available to all guests (staying at recommended hotels) attending the Welcome Party on the 14th at Durty Nelly's.

We are flying in and out of Dublin and may want to spend some time there. Do you have any hotel/restaurant/sightseeing recommendations?

For hotels in Dublin, a family favorite is The Shelbourne Hotel on St. Stephen's Green. Other well located and possibly better priced options are: The Fitzwilliam, The Grafton, The Brooks, The Alex, The Mont.

There is so much to see and do in Dublin. It is a major European city with great restaurants, history, and shopping. The Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College and Kilmainham Jail are two of our most loved. Book both ahead, the Jail 28 days out. Guinness Storehouse and Jameson Distillery are two excellent tours. Guinness is self tour and Jameson, guided. Stop by Temple Bar, have a walk down Grafton Street, visit Molly Malone statue, and pop in at O'Neills for a pint. Grab an Irish coffee at The Bank, a hot chocolate/coffee at Butler's, and some traditional Irish fare at Doheny & Nesbitt's. For some Irish music you can't beat O'Donaghues (on Merrion Row) or Darkey Kelly's. You can grab some famous fish & chips at Leo Burdock's and join the list of the many famous guests that have come before you!

Our flight home out of Dublin is very early. Do you recommend any hotels close to the airport?

The Maldron Dublin Airport Hotel and Radisson Blu Dublin Airport Hotel (no king beds) are minutes from the airport and offer complimentary shuttle service every twenty minutes on the hour from the hotel to the airport. Both hotels offer several restaurant options. In addition, Brad found a great pub, Kiely's, just behind the Radisson. What a great way to get in your last pint before heading home!

We plan to explore Ireland either before or after the wedding. Do you have any advice on what is not to miss?

Please reach out to Janet with any questions regarding your extended stay. She is happy to make recommendations.

We are driving from Dublin to Ennis. Anything to see or do on the way?

The drive from Dublin to Ennis is about 2:45. Stop along the way and see a few of the smaller towns of Ireland. Just south are the Wicklow mountains, or the "Dublin Mountains". It's a beautiful scenic ride and will take you to the bridge from the great movie, PS I Love You. Stop for a little history at Glendalough, renowned for an Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin. From 1825 to 1957. They have a great little hotel/restaurant worth a stop for a pint and a toasty. (about 1:00 from Dublin) Kildare is about 45 minutes from Dublin on the main route (2:00 from Ennis). It's "horse country", home to Ireland's world famous Curragh Racecourse. Stop for your first pint. It's 12 o'clock somewhere. If whiskey is on your mind, a stop at Tullamore. Tullamore DEW (named after it's 1800's general manager, Daniel E. Williams) is a worthwhile visit. (1:45 from Ennis) Roscrea is another stop a little further on your drive. In Co. Tipperary, it is known for its medieval churches and castle, by the same name. There was an Irish film based on a mother's search for her "lost" son. Sean Ross Abbey was the location and Philomena, the film. (about 1:15 from Ennis) Stop along the way. You won't be sorry. See you in Ennis!
