Q + A

Ceremony and Reception Details

Where do we park for the ceremony and reception?

The largest public parking lot is on the corner of E. Bacon St. and N. Manning St. From there you can walk to the church and the reception venue. Additionally, there's parking behind the church off Ferris St. It's a short walk to the reception venue (The Dawn Theater) but if you want to drive, there's limited street parking in front and a small church parking lot behind. NOTE: The Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive No. 765 is visiting Hillsdale and will be parked for its layover just north of Carleton Road during the wedding and start of the reception, so parking will be more limited than usual. See the map below for public parking locations.

Will there be time between the ceremony and reception?

Yes! From ~2:30-3:30 pm you can expect to have free time before the cocktail hour begins. We suggest grabbing a drink at the Hunt Club or Pub 'N Grub, both located across the street from the church. Checker Records, Jilly Beans, and Rough Draft are all super close to pick up a cup of coffee. The Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive No. 765 will be visiting Hillsdale and parked for its three-hour layover during this time, so anticipate more people roaming downtown than usual. We suggest walking down to the tracks just north of Carleton Road on Hillsdale Street to see this historic steam train!

What type of food and drinks can we expect at the reception?

Get ready for barbeque buffet (our favorites from Kalamazoo) with non-alcoholic beverages for the little ones and non-drinkers. Drinks are on us during the cocktail hour and dinner, but we'll switch to a cash bar at 6:30 for those who want to keep the party going.

Staying in Hillsdale

Is there a hotel room block?

No. There are a number of bed and breakfasts in the greater Hillsdale area. Recommended establishments are listed under "Travel". If you're looking for something out of town or through AirBnb/Vrbo, narrow your search to Hillsdale, Jonesville, or Coldwater to stay in the area.

What else is there to do around Hillsdale?

Head north to Hillsdale College's campus and visit the arboretum, the library and bookstore, or just walk "up the hill" to get a glimpse of where Michael and Kelly spent four years studying. Head south to Baw Beese Lake for relaxation outdoors in a great picnic spot.

Where can I grab a bite if we're staying in town before or after the wedding?

Breakfast/brunch: Finish Line (best greasy spoon around) Local Eatery Sharon's House of Pancakes (expensive and food court-ish, but excellent) // Lunch/Dinner: Pub 'N Grub Finish Line Hunt Club (fried pickles!) Handmade (sandwich shop formerly known as Oakley's) // Bars: Bootleggers (quieter whiskey bar) 55 Below (club atmosphere) Hunt Club (restaurant/bar) Pub 'N Grub Rough Draft
