The Story Of Us

Our story begins in the Fall of 2021. Kelsey and James first met at Little City - a school where they were both employed. They instantly noticed the other person the first time they saw one another. This mutual interest soon turned into phone calls and texts... not to each other... but to their close friends, excitedly telling them about the person they "met" at work. There was also, of course, a reasonable amount of social media stalking carried out by both sides. Nevertheless, even with this mutual interest and the encouragement from their close friends, Kelsey and James refrained from introducing themselves to one another for a solid two weeks. Mutual admiration was practiced by promptly ignoring the other person, both parties mistakenly playing "hard to get." This very well could have gone on indefinitely but thankfully Kelsey finally broke the ice and stopped James in the hallway to introduce herself: "Hi, we haven't officially met. My name is Kelsey.." James responded with a romantically poetic "euhr..eh hi.." and then quickly turned away and kept walking. He could not believe such a beautiful girl was talking to him. It took him another hour to build up the confidence to say hi back. But he finally did and this led into daily conversations between the two at work and at home via their job's communication app. James took too long to ask for her number. She had to give it to him several days later. In December of 2021, James eventually got the courage to ask her out on a date. She said yes. Their first date was meeting at this same school to clean a fish tank and then awkwardly wait for two hours while their talkative coworker talked their ears off, him being blissfully unaware that this was our couple's first date. The weight of this one-way conversation was eventually lifted though, and James and Kelsey escaped the school to go get coffee and then to a pet store to play with puppies (nice move James). After several hours of the caffeinated petting of various fuzzy animals, Kelsey had to leave in order to take her sick cat to the vet. James offered to go with to help (an obviously desperate move, but hey, it worked). She accepted his offer and James met Todd (Kelsey's cat and soulmate) for the first time. (A quick note: James has come to peace with the fact that Todd is Kelsey's favorite. James has learned to be content with 2nd place). After the vet appointment, Kelsey went home to visit with her family because her brother was in town. James couldn't stop thinking about Kelsey and berated her with text messages asking if she wanted to go out that same day later in the night. Although it was a frantic gamble but: She said yes. So James, excited about seeing Kelsey again but foolishly without any sense of plan, desperately looked for a place that was open late where the two could get drinks and talk. He got overwhelmed with the limited options and panic-picked a dinky biker bar that was blasting rock music (and not good rock music. But like early 2000s, overplayed on the radio rock music). Not a great place. But thankfully, Kelsey showed up, and the two talked and drank together until 3:30 in the morning. (Despite the romantic history behind this location, Kelsey and James have never returned to this bar and do not plan to in the future). Kelsey then got COVID and was sick for two weeks. James thought she was lying and using this as an excuse to not see him again. So he did the only logical thing and went outside her apartment late at night and constructed a snowman that held a cardboard sign that said "get better soon so we can hang out." THANKFULLY, she thought this was a cute gesture and not the beginning of a creepy stalker ritual. Thus, upon recovering, Kelsey agreed to several more dates. This eventually led to New Year's Eve of 2021, when Kelsey and James joined a few of their mutual friends at a New Year's Party. James was way too shy and awkward (and stupid, quite frankly) to make any sort of move at midnight. Thankfully though, Kelsey new what she wanted, pushed her way through the crowd to James at 11:59:55 PM, and kissed him for the first time. His world was changed forever. Soon after that New Years night, both knew they were falling in love. On January 16th, 2022, in a tent set up in her living room, James asked Kelsey if she wanted to be his girlfriend. She said yes. James proposed to Kelsey on September 28th, 2024. She had (mostly) no idea that it was coming. Kelsey's friend Jenn had lied to her by saying she was having marital issues and desperately needed girl time with Kelsey to vent about married life. Similarly, Kelsey had been angry at James for about a week because she had resolved that he was just never going to propose to her. And instead of comforting her when she was clearly upset, all James did was ignore her feelings and play video games (A note to the reader in defense of James: he knew she was angry at him, but decided to act the part of a jerk to make the proposal all the more surprising. Plus, it was a fun video game). As such, both women agreed upon a quick angry-girl-walk at a park called Independence Grove to complain about boys. Meanwhile, this was, of course, all a farce. Jenn and James and Anna (James' sister) had been hatching this master plan for weeks. Jenn would be the distraction excuse (Kelsey completely believed all her lies), Jenn's husband would be the unfortunate fall-guy for the lie to work (thanks Lamar! James still owes you a beer for that), Anna would be hiding in a bush with a camera (and simultaneously losing her car keys), Anna's fiance Ryne would be hiding in a bush with another camera (he later found the car keys), and James would be waiting with the ring by the lake (and trying to awkwardly not make eye contact with random fishermen). Despite all the moving pieces and last minute hiccups - Kelsey getting an aggressive allergy attack the morning of (Benadryl being the unsung hero of the day), James hitting every single red light while racing to the park (following all speed limits of course), and fishermen having claimed the preferred site (thank you Anna for scaring them away) - all worked together perfectly. Kelsey saw James, burst into tears, and blacked out as she walked up to him. James got down on one knee, blacked out, and then hopefully recited everything he had been secretly practicing in the shower for the six days leading up to this. She said yes. Actually, more accurately, she said: "ehrmygod*sniff*ican'tbelieve*sniff*thisI'mso*snort*sorryIwasmadat*sniff*you." THEN she said yes. And this brings us, dear reader, to the next part of their story. On Saturday, December 13th 2025, Kelsey and James are going to get married. There will be food, dancing, music, and the start of a new chapter for Kelsey and James when they say: Yes* Plus, James will probably cry like a baby. And that will be cute and funny. *(Kelsey when editing: "You know we're going to say 'I do' and not 'Yes' right?" James: "Shoot. That ruins the whole yes mantra I had going. I'll have to make a note.")

Meet our favorite people

Jennifer and I met sometime in elementary school, we were on the same soccer team like multiple times. Go tigers! We were friends on and off until around 8th grade when we finally became best friends and have been inseparable ever since. We spent our high school years joining random clubs, yelling at football games, making way too many prank calls, spending countless hours at six flags, screaming at concerts, and pretty much stalking a radio host named Jersey (shout out to B96). At the end of high school Jenn begged me to volunteer at an overnight camp called Special Camps. If you really know me you know I was VERY shy back then so I said yes but was hesitant. Now, I can safely and easily say that Special Camps changed my life. We spent 8 summers and over 800 hours volunteering at this camp together and a big chunk of the best memories I have were made there. Jenn is constantly encouraging me to pursue my dreams, face my fears, and follow my heart. She is one of the best people I know. I can count on her for ANYTHING. She’s my partner in crime, confidant, cheerleader and biggest supporter through every stage of life. Now she can add Maid of Honor to that list&nbsp;:)

Caitlin and I met when we were…maybe 2? We don’t really know but that’s what we always go with! We grew up across the street from each other and I will be forever grateful for that because it brought me a built-in best friend sister. We spent our childhood playing with brats in her basement, roller blading in mine to backstreet boys and Brittany Spears, playing cavemen outside (don’t ask), and honestly doing a bunch of other weird stuff… Caitlin was in the grade above me but that didn’t change anything, we made it work and always stayed close. We spent our middle school years obsessing over Keith Urban and the Jonas Brothers (see Brittany’s section for more on that), and our high school and college years passing and writing each other notes and letters (I still have a box of hundreds of notes we passed and letter/cards wrote) and visiting each other at college. She has always been there no matter what. The laughs and memories we have are countless and I can’t wait to make more! Thanks for being the sister I needed growing up. LYLAS!

Caitlin- Bridesmaid

7th&nbsp;grade is a weird time for most, but meeting someone like Brittany during such a weird time in life was a blessing. We instantly bonded (obsessed) over the Jonas Brothers and spent hours singing to their music and staring at the 100s of pictures of them on our walls… Brittany, Jenn and I spent most waking hours together during our high school years. We kept in touch throughout our college years and have since spent a lot of time going out to bars to dance and coming back to snack on Brittany’s epic French fry sauce (ask her for the recipe seriously). She’s been there for the many seasons of my life and I can always count on her. I couldn’t imagine my big day without her by my side.

At some point in my early 20’s I very vaguely remember a girl sneaking out of our house and freaking out about it to my parents because Tommy NEVER brought girls home. It wasn’t until a few years later that she (Stefanie) started coming around more and more and I was over the moon about it, and SO on board. She was beautiful, funny and so invested in getting to know me. I worked with her and Tommy at Pinstripes (for like one month cause I hated It, but I needed money and Tommy had an in), I was so nervous all the time but having her there helping me every step of the way made the job worth it. I have always admired and looked up to Tommy and Stefanie’s relationship. The love they have for each other is enviable and so special. She has treated me like a sister from literally day one, and now she’s stuck with me ;).&nbsp;

Stefanie- Bridesmaid

James told me about Anna right off the bat. He told me about how when I first asked for his number (on thanksgiving), him, Anna and Becky were all freaking out. He said she couldn’t stop gushing about how pretty I was. That’s when I knew I would love her. Just kidding! lol. But that was a bonus.. James and I started dating in January but he hid most of his family from me! I met Anna 4th&nbsp;of July weekend (yes it took 6 months) of 2022. I also met Anna’s fiancé (Ryne) and both of his parents that day, so I was overwhelmed to say the least. That feeling soon went away… Anna was and still is the most welcoming person I have ever met. She has always made me feel special, right at home and truly a part of their family. Over the next few years, we grew closer and closer and I’m constantly looking forward to the next time I get to see her. I can’t believe I’m gaining two sisters!

Remember how I said James hid his family from me? Well Becky was the exception. Granted a favor was involved but I’m so glad I met her when I did! James took me on a weekend trip in February 2022 and we needed a kitty sitter for Toddy, insert Becky. I was very nervous to meet her so soon into our relationship, so of course the day I met her I gave her a huge hug and rambled on about who knows what out of nervousness. We have since made many memories talking about our soul pets and obsession with all living creatures, watching scary movies on our couch, playing dumb games, sending animal videos back and forth via social media, and watching our babies (Todd, Roo and Laika) do funny and cute things. James is obviously great, but thank god he has not one but two sisters I consider great friends and get to stand by me on our special day.

Luke is a real cool guy. James met Luke during their Freshman year of college. James initially thought Luke was annoying and Luke thought James was shy, pessimistic, and mopey. One of them was right. Thankfully, James realized the error of his ways, and the two became fast friends. And similar to his experience in college (minus the debt, trauma, and gross societal pressure to be obsessed with sports), James has learned much through his friendship with Luke. Whether it’s while playing Axis and Allies in Luke’s garage in the middle of winter, fleeing together after dumping water in their suitemate’s new car, laying on the floor and discussing the pros and cons of anarchy, or hiding their faces from God as they shamefully pull into the parking lot of Burger King yet again… James’ friendship with Luke has always encouraged him to be a better man. James is honored to have Luke stand with him as his best man. After all, when somebody texts you “Who are your top three Byzantine Emperors?” - That’s when you know they’re your best friend.

Jordan is a real cool guy. James met Jordan while working at Little City Foundation (the same place James first met Kelsey). They were both on the Crisis Intervention Team together and quickly bonded over job-related trauma, job-related injuries, hatred for job-related corruption, and helping others. They also worked together at a second job at a different school. Both times, Jordan made work more bearable and more enjoyable. Plus, during one work meeting, James sent Jordan a meme that mocked their boss (who was running the meeting). This was typical behavior except… James was sleep deprived and sent the meme to the boss instead. Panicked, James told Jordan it was all over. Thankfully though, Jordan does not share James’ technological illiteracy and showed him how to un-send a text. The day was saved. Through the troubles of employment, the sharing of many a political meme, many devoured tacos, and a shared inability to push a vending machine through a small doorway, James and Jordan have become great friends. And James is honored to have Jordan stand with him.

Will is a real cool guy. Having always wanted brothers (in addition to his sisters of course - not as replacements), James was thrilled when he discovered Kelsey had two of them. Over the past few years, Will has helped teach James five truths about life and the human experience: 1) Carhartt makes fantastic hoodies and hats2) Maine Coons are seriously underrated cats3) Keep the rule book far away from dad when the Fisher family is playing a game4) James sucks at archery5) Kelsey screamed a lot as a child As such (and for many other reasons), James is a better and wiser man by knowing Will. And he is honored to have Will stand with him.

Will- Groomsman

Tommy is a real cool guy. Having always wanted brothers (in addition to his sisters of course - not as replacements), James was thrilled when he discovered Kelsey had two of them. James was first introduced to Tommy when Tommy sent Kelsey a text that read: “911! Help!” Kelsey anxiously called Tommy immediately, only for Tommy to ask her whether she thinks he should get ramen or tacos for dinner. James instantly knew that he would get along great with Tommy. And he was right. The styles of humor were compatible, both men were somewhat (perhaps to an unhealthy degree) obsessed with delicious food, both were (and are) experts at purposely annoying Kelsey, Tommy introduced James to what an “egg-pizza” is (and changed his life forever), and both have a passionate love for Fallout (the game series, not residual radiation). James is honored to have Tommy stand with him.

Tommy- Groomsman

Ryne is a real cool guy. James was once on the phone with his mom when she said: “There’s this guy that helped Anna move a couch into her apartment. You should meet him.” This was James’ first introduction to Ryne. Unfortunately, James was not there to witness said moved couch - but if it was a service that matched the rest of Ryne’s character, then that couch was moved efficiently, safely, and accompanied by some fantastic well-timed jokes. As the years went by, James and Ryne became great friends, bonding with the shared loves of eating food, annoying James’ sisters, comedians, games, having fantastic heads of hair, and eating food. James is honored to have Ryne stand with him. Oh, and Ryne is also going to marry James’ sister. And that’s pretty cool too.

Ryne- Groomsman

Lamar is a real cool guy. Some men become brothers through birth. Other men create bonds through the trials of combat. Lamar and James forged their friendship through the devouring of food, specifically: “THE SAUCE.” “THE SAUCE” is a combination of perfect ingredients into a perfect and adaptable condiment. (All credit goes to Brittany - see Kelsey’s Bridesmaids). While others (Kelsey and Jenn - see Kelsey’s Bridesmaids) described THE SAUCE with measly and pathetic praise such as “it was pretty good” or “I liked it”, Lamar and James both saw the truth. THE SAUCE was proof that a higher spiritual being(s) not only existed, but loved humankind. We shunned those who lacked faith and celebrated THE SAUCE. For those interested in joining us in our journeys of enlightenment, one must ask Brittany: The Guardian of THE SAUCE. There are many reasons, in addition to THE SAUCE, that Lamar and James are friends. But after writing this, James is hungry and needs to go make THE SAUCE. Lamar will understand. Needless to say though, James is honored to have Lamar stand with him. *A note to the reader* When James shared these groomsmen bios with Kelsey, Kelsey made the claim that “I loved the sauce as much as you guys did! I have video proof!” Said “proof” has still not been presented. It will be left to the Counsel to decide.
