Kelsey and I first “met” our freshman year at UGA. I say met in quotations because really the first time we talked was when I asked her to stop blocking the TV while I was playing in my Madden Superbowl game (what a terrible first impression…). Not surprisingly, we did not start on the right foot, so it was sophomore year when we had biology class and lunch together (along with a few other friends - shoutout Kaitlyn, Grant, and Belle) before we really became friends. Along the way we started having more one-on-one time (especially after Kelsey ignored her assigned seat to sit with me) which led to us establishing a much deeper connection. Eventually, I realized that she genuinely cared for me, laughed at all my jokes (even when they were embarrassing), was excited to see me and sad when she couldn’t and I felt the same way about her. It became very clear to me at this point that I liked Kelsey, but she beat me to doing something about it when she asked me to go on a Phi Slam Date Night (which I accepted without hesitation). The whole time I was a bundle of nerves since I had decided to ask her out properly at the end of the night (thanks to a little musical nudge from Kevin that gave me the courage). When she let me know that she would love to go on a date, I proceeded to run around my apartment screaming “LETS GOOOO” (not when she was there, of course…).
Since then, we have spent a lot of time learning more and more about each other, having fun, caring for one another, and enjoying life having the other person around. Some of my favorite memories from the past few years include when we both first said “I love you” while in the car listening to the song Best Friend by Rex Orange County (who we later saw in concert on our anniversary). As well as when we had our first kiss on Spring Break in Highlands, NC with the perfect movie backdrop (at the end of a dock, looking over a frozen lake, with a blanket of fresh snow around us). Finally, I cannot forget when I proposed to her at that same Highlands location two years later, completely to her surprise (I have NO IDEA how I pulled that off!). Now, I will be able to add marrying the love of my life and best friend to this list of favorite memories and I could not be more excited to spend a lifetime making more with Kelsey Goss (soon-to-be-Saville)!
Please enjoy our very first (and very awkward) photo together from the Phi Slam Date Night in December of 2021!
