How We Met

Picture of How We Met

Aaron and I met on the Auburn Plains in “Computer-Aided Engineering,” a class we both took during the summer of 2019. He sat behind me every lecture and we’d occasionally make small talk, but the semester ended with us being Facebook friends and not much more. During a chance encounter in January 2020, we reconnected and quickly expanded our conversations beyond the classroom. After texting back and forth about a week, we had our first date; a simple breakfast + church Sunday morning on February 9th. We went out again for Valentine’s Day and made it official a few days after that!

How He Asked

The second week of February was a busy one consisting of projects, quizzes, exams, and job interviews…sounds like the perfect week to propose! On Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, Aaron and I met for breakfast at Another Broken Egg, exactly one year after our first date at that very same spot. He even got us the same table! After breakfast, we drove back to my apartment where he surprised me with a hand casting kit. I was a little skeptical, but he seemed really excited about it, so I rolled up my sleeves, took off my rings and plunged my hand into the bright pink goo with him. Once the mold had set, we wiggled our hands free and washed up. He left to take the kit home so he could pour the casting powder into the mold; I turned my focus on to my engineering economy exam that afternoon. A few hours later, the casting had hardened up so Addison and I headed over to his place to see how it turned out. Slowly but surely, we peeled away the rubbery mold to expose our intertwined hands, only for me to spot a small round piece extruding off my finger…IT WAS A RING! I turned around in shock and looked down. Aaron, now on his knee, asked me to marry him! I was speechless and so confused on how he got a ring on my hand, but of course I was going to say YES! Little did I know that my sister really had a “hand” in the planning of it. Even both of our parents and my grandmother were there! They were all in on the whole thing and it made for an incredible night in the middle of a hectic week. February 9th holds a special place in our hearts – our first date and the day we got engaged.
