Last summer, Robert told Kelsey he was planning a surprise trip over her school’s fall break. He would provide packing guidelines, but she wouldn't know where they were going until it was time to leave!

The night before their departure, Robert cooked Kelsey her favorite meal, Baingan Bharta; it was the same meal he made for her the night before he left on a family vacation to Costa Rica just after they had begun dating four years prior. Kelsey remembered this and wondered out loud if Costa Rica was their destination, but Robert convinced her he'd only made the dish since it was the first thing he'd ever cooked for her (deceit!). At the airport, Robert handed Kelsey a ticket and revealed that they were, in fact, on their way to Costa Rica!

It was no secret to Kelsey that this trip would contain a proposal and that made it all the more romantic. They first headed to the coast for a day at the beach and then made their way inland to Hotel Amor Arenal and its jaw dropping views of the Volcano Arenal. The rainy season provided a few roadblocks to Robert's plans to propose earlier in the trip, but he finally got his chance on their last full day while overlooking the La Fortuna Waterfall. As it rained lightly around them, Robert proposed and Kelsey answered "A million times, yes!" She then shouted "We're getting married!" at the first tourists she saw. They spent the rest of the day exploring the waterfall, wandering the city, and basking in the glow of a perfect day.
