How We Met

Scott and Kelsey met February 2018 at an event called Camp Gladiator at the Nashville pedestrian bridge. Kelsey almost didn’t go, but still wanted to go because she was interviewing with Camp Gladiator and Scott saw rain coming and almost called off going. Luckily for both they showed up regardless. Both of them showed up early for the event and were able to get some mats already laid out. Scott saw Kelsey and got a mat close to her. Wanting to make friends Scott commented how he always picked pink colored thing so they don’t get stolen and asked Kelsey if she did the same with her pink mat, that she brought. “It’s not pink,” she said slightly annoyed. Admittedly it was more of a purple mat so Scott apologized and was a little more careful in how he addressed colors from then on. Kelsey hates the color pink just so you know. Some small talk happened from there until the event started. Scott talked to several more folks making some new friends but he still liked Kelsey the most since she seemed so sweet. Kelsey at the time didn’t think much of it, doing her own thing.

The event then split up into groups of three. Scott wanting to make Kelsey a part of his group tried to space out enough but failed. So they both worked out in their own group. Scott was a bit of a creeper and wanted to know where Kelsey was so he could talk to her again…yes a creeper.

Finally, the groups were done and it was one big group again and everyone had to go back to their original mats. Lucky for Scott right? So Scott got to talk to Kelsey again but the workout was not done. Scott wondered, ‘how can I get her to notice me more?’ There was a kid next to the pair that was having difficulty, so Scott tried to encourage the kiddo. This was two birds one stone, kid got some help and companionship and Kelsey could see Scott maybe in a different light….it made no difference we learn later.

As the workout program finished and everyone was leaving Scott debated just going home since she seemed uninterested. Scott ignored that and just asked if she wanted to eat lunch. She agreed and asked where. Scott told here “where ever, I am not from around here so nothing is any closer or further from me.” Turns out Kelsey was from his neck of the woods! What are the odds? So they agreed to meet at their local Zoe’s. One thing about Kelsey is that she looks rather young so as Scott was driving to get lunch he had a moment of concern,”… is she even 18? I mean she drove there so surely she is at least 16… this could be bad I should have thought of this earlier versus just assuming.” Scott got to Zoe’s first but Kelsey missed the exit. She called Scott to tell him she missed it but Scott was waiting for a blow off the lunch kind of response. Luckily, there was a lot of construction and Kelsey just has bad sense of direction so she genuinely just missed the turn.

So during lunch Scott, who was determined to discover Kelsey’s age, covertly asked her questions to get a gage of her age:

Scott “so you in school?”
Kelsey “just graduated”
Scott (thinking) ok but maybe still 17
Scott “any siblings?”
Kelsey “ yeah I am in the middle, two sisters and a brother”
Scott “so how old are they?”
Kelsey “why”

This goes on for a while but finally Kelsey talks about how when she graduated she majored in Excerise Science. So that means her age was within range and Scott could stop worrying! Just to verify later Scott took her to a shooting range where they check IDs. Scott finally asked Kelsey on an actual date the next day. Kelsey says Zoe’s doesn’t count as the first date since she went because she “felt bad for the awkward guy”. The rest is history and after 3 years of being the awkward guy Scott took her to the same pedestrian bridge to propose. Soon she will be Mrs. Awkward guy.
