Matt and Kendall grew up just 15 minutes from one another. Matt in Newbury, NH and Kendall in North Sutton, NH. Matt went to private school K-8th grade and transferred to Kearsarge at the beginning of their freshman year. Matt and Kendall had history class together freshman year, which is where they met. Their history teacher, beloved Mr. Leeming, assigned seats to his students and placed Matt next to Kendall. Mr. Leeming (and Kendall) realized quickly that Matt is a class clown character and quite the chatty, talkative fellow. Matt's seat was reassigned (all the way across the classroom) but not before Kendall and Matt were able to form a friendship. The social dynamics in high school were a challenge for Kendall, and she could always rely on Matt to make her laugh and be a steady and constant friend. Sophomore year resulted in another history class with both Matt and Kendall on the attendance sheet. Their friendship continued to grow as they navigated the nuances of high school. At the start of junior year, Kendall transferred to a private school and eventually Matt asked her out. For their first date they went ice skating. Matt and Kendall were able to build a very healthy and loving relationship from their foundation of friendship. The two always had fun together, laughed a lot and enjoyed the company of one another. They went to prom together and were even crowned as homecoming king and queen! Kendall transferred back to Kearsarge (long story) for their senior year. Despite everything being very healthy in their relationship, Matt and Kendall broke up during their senior year. As with many young couples, lack of emotional intelligence got the better of them. They were both heartbroken. They worked hard to remain on good terms and maintain a friendship. They graduated together in June of 2015. Matt moved to Vermont to pursue getting his degree in culinary arts from New England Culinary Institute, and Kendall moved to North Carolina to attend High Point University.
High Point University did not end up being a great fit for Kendall and she decided to withdraw from school and move back to NH. In February of 2016 Kendall landed a job with Tucker's, a local breakfast and lunch restaurant that was gaining in popularity. At this time, Kendall thought she would work for a couple of months and return to school in the fall of 2016, anyone who knows Kendall's story might laugh at this point. Once Kendall was hired and started her training at Tucker's, she discovered that Matt was also working for Tucker's, attending school in VT on the weekdays, and traveling home to NH on weekends to work at the restaurant. Matt and Kendall had not stayed in touch once moving away to school, so Tucker's reconnected the two.
Matt and Kendall worked alongside each other at Tucker's for approximately six years, helping the business grow and allowing the business to teach them skills in management, leadership and customer service. During this time, Matt and Kendall maintained a friendship, but were able to grow independently as people. They dated other people, had their own experiences and challenges, traveled, etc.
God brought these two back together when he gave Matt the courage to tell Kendall how he felt about her in the early summer of 2022. Kendall had reciprocal feelings, but had always kept them to herself because she did not want to hurt Matt again. After 8 years apart, they took the leap and started dating again. Their relationship was as solid and wonderful as before, with a little bit more maturity and a whole lot more life experience in both of their pockets. They say the best relationships start as friendships, Matt and Kendall could not agree more. They both knew early on that they wanted to hold on to each other forever. Kendall appreciates how genuinely kind and easy going Matt is, and how he can always make her (or anyone) laugh. Matt appreciates Kendall's wacky and wonderful personality, her itch for travel and adventure and her straightforward and simple approach in almost everything she does. The two compliment each other well.
On February 12, 2023, Matt proposed to Kendall at one of her favorite places in the entire world, Muster Field Farm. It was a complete and utter surprise! Matt had arranged for Kendall's family and best friend to be there, in hiding. The engagement ring he picked out for Kendall is stunning. Matt is a detail master and a planner extraordinaire. He pulled off an amazing engagement, and this was one of the happiest days the couple has ever shared.
2023 was a busy year for Kendall's family (who live far and wide.) Her cousin Ryan was getting married to Emma in Utah in May, and her sister was getting married to Joel in NH in September. Kendall's family mean a great deal to her and she knew that another big, white wedding in 2023 would mean that most of her family would not be able to attend (those darn job things.) Matt and Kendall decided to have a small wedding ceremony in the White Mountains of NH on May 17, 2023 and left the US in early July to backpack through Europe for their honeymoon!
The happy couple is looking forward with great pleasure to renewing their vows and celebrating their commitment of love and loyalty to one another with you on October 12, 2024!
